Desde o início da pandemia, vários fármacos, foram estudados como alternativas para tratar a infecção pela COVID-19. Entre estes, pode-se citar a cloroquina, a ivermectina, a hidroxicloroquina e a nitazoxanida. O presente estudo buscou identificar o conhecimento e comportamento sobre o uso de medicamentos sem comprovação científica em parte da população do estado do Pará, durante a pandemia de COVID-19. A pesquisa adotou uma abordagem descritiva e prospectiva, envolvendo um questionário em formulário eletrônico, para coletar dados de moradores do estado. Os resultados demonstraram que a frequência de indivíduos que acreditavam no tratamento precoce e/ou utilização de medicamentos como profilaxia foi maior em residentes das cidades do interior do estado e nas faixas etárias maiores, apesar dos achados científicos contrários. Na população estudada, 9,9% dos residentes das demais cidades não acreditavam que as vacinas eram seguras e eficientes e 7,0% relataram que apenas algumas seriam. A orientação ideológica de uma parte da população e os movimentos antivacinas, podem explicar em parte os resultados apresentados. O uso inadequado de medicamentos para o tratamento precoce e/ou de uso profilático da COVID-19 ainda é uma realidade no estado Pará, devendo serem implementadas políticas públicas para coibir tal uso e incremento de ações que busquem conscientizar sobre a importância da vacinação e manutenção das medidas de prevenção cientificamente comprovadas.
Desde o seu surgimento em 2019, o SARS-CoV-2 se mostrou muito versátil e letal. Os números de óbitos e internações se tornaram um problema, sendo, portanto, necessário encontrar uma medida contra a infecção. Diante disso, novos estudos foram surgindo a partir de fármacos já existentes, como a Hidroxicloroquina, Nitazoxanida, Azitromicina e Ivermectina. Entretanto, diante de incertezas, o uso desses fármacos foi amplamente difundido, mesmo após a realização de estudos que não constataram o real benefício dessa terapia, se tornando um problema, principalmente no Brasil. Portanto, o presente estudo buscou compreender a perspectiva dos profissionais da saúde, a partir de um formulário eletrônico, em relação ao tratamento precoce assim como as medidas preventivas para COVID-19. Em relação ao tratamento precoce, a maioria dos indivíduos (69/88) não acredita no uso de medicamentos como forma profilática ou com objetivo de cura, sendo que aqueles com idade superior a 39 anos apresentaram maiores índices de confiança (40% e 28%) nesse manejo farmacológico, em relação aos profissionais com idade entre 18 e 39 anos (14,3% e 1,6%). Quando questionados sobre a segurança e eficácia das vacinas, profissionais de nível técnico apresentaram um índice de confiança inferior (82,4%) quando comparado aos de nível superior (97,2%). Os dados indicam que os profissionais da saúde tendem a buscar atualização sobre a COVID-19, mas que grupos específicos devem receber atenção, objetivando combater a desinformação e implementar, por completo, o conceito de saúde baseada em evidências.
