Este trabalho teve como propósito analisar a concepção de profissionais do Serviço Social sobre a loucura e tratamento de usuários dos Centros de Atenção Psicossocial (CAPS), e a relação entre suas considerações e o Projeto Ético-Político (PEP) profissional. A pesquisa teve natureza empírica e abordagem qualitativa. Foram entrevistados cinco assistentes sociais dos CAPS I de municípios do Recôncavo Baiano, para posterior análise de conteúdo por categorização temática. As considerações dos assistentes sociais foram enquadradas numa perspectiva psicossocial, pois dialogam tanto com pressupostos biologicistas e patologizadores, como com a dimensão da cidadania. O destaque, portanto, é a necessidade de a categoria estabelecer relações mais orgânicas com os movimentos sociais vinculados à Luta Antimanicomial, os quais atuam numa perspectiva essencialmente despatologizadora da vida.
O presente texto objetiva resenhar criticamente a obra Patologização e Medicalização da vida: Epistemologia e Política, organizada pelos seguintes autores: Paulo Amarante, Ana Maria Pitta e Walter Oliveira. Os 11 artigos que compõem esta obra contam com contribuições, as mais diversas, de profissionais da saúde (enfermeiros, psicólogos e psiquiatras), pesquisadores e militantes pela despatologização da vida. Trata-se de uma obra crítica ao “suposto paradigma científico” que se erigiu em torno dos neurolépticos e que está atenta à tendência de individualização dos problemas sociais, à patologização do desviante e à medicalização da existência – como braço ideológico da Indústria Farmacêutica.
Resumo -O texto busca refletir sobre religião e comunidades terapêuticas, na perspectiva da saúde mental, e propõe problematizar a mediação dos conceitos de laicidade e apoio social. Sinaliza a necessidade de defesa intransigente dos direitos humanos e o fortalecimento da Rede de Atenção Psicossocial (Raps), expressões claras do projeto ético-político (PEP) do Serviço Social brasileiro, ameaçadas na atual conjuntura do país, de cariz ultraconservador. Considera que a necessidade da religiosidade como elemento de apoio social para lidar com o sofrimento mental que decorre dos problemas com o uso abusivo de álcool e outras drogas é inversamente proporcional ao financiamento e pleno funcionamento da Raps e que se faz mister retomar a defesa da reforma psiquiátrica.
