Introdução: O próprio processo de envelhecimento pode afetar a sua saúde dos idosos, e ainda aumentar a os casos de distúrbios nutricionais. Sendo a condição de Insegurança Alimentar (IA) instalada, é um possível desencadeador destes distúrbios. Objetivo: O estudo objetivou caracterizar o perfil socioeconômico, estado nutricional e a prevalência de insegurança alimentar em idosos (n=62) usuários do Restaurante Popular do Município de Santa Cruz-RN. Métodos: Os entrevistados responderam um questionário estruturado abordando características socioeconômicas, perfil clínico, e Escala Brasileira de Insegurança Alimentar (EBIA), ainda realizou-se a antropometria (peso, altura, IMC e CA) com o grupo. Resultados: Obeservou-se uma prevalência, do sexo masculino, com faixa etária entre 65 a 75 anos, casados, com renda mensal maior que um salário mínimo. Foi visto que a maioria dos idosos apresentou hipertensão arterial, sendo observada a predominância de excesso de peso e risco muito elevado para doenças crônicas, em ambos os sexos. Houve uma incidência da condição de IA em 42,0% da amostra, variando nos níveis de leve, moderado e grave (27%, 13% e 2% respectivamente). Conclusão: Verificou-se que aproximadamente metade dos idosos possuía a situação de IA instalada, e incidência de doenças crônicas não transmissíveis, o que pode comprometer a saúde e qualidade de vida dos mesmos. Por isso é válido reforçar importância de intervenções nutricionais como uma forma de melhorar a qualidade de vida da população idosa.
Objetivo: Rrealizar a caracterização socioeconômica e identificar o consumo alimentar de idosos portadores de hipertensão atendidos em unidades básicas de saúde de um município do Rio Grande do Norte. Materiais e métodos: Trata-se de um estudo transversal, descritivo e quantitativo. A amostra (n=160), de ambos os sexos, cadastrados no HIPERDIA das unidades básicas de saúde. Aplicou-se um formulário abordando dados socioeconômicos, clínicos, hábitos cotidianos e o questionário de frequência do consumo alimentar. Resultados: Observou-se 79% (n=126) dos idosos do sexo feminino e faixa etária entre 60 – 70 anos. A renda foi de até 1 salário mínimo e escolaridade limitada ao ensino fundamental incompleto. Quanto aos hábitos cotidianos, verificou-se que 89% não referiram tabagismo, 95% não consumiam bebida alcoólica e 53% não praticavam de atividade física. Além da hipertensão, 36% dos idosos apresentaram Diabetes MeIlitus. Quanto ao consumo alimentar, 53% e 23% dos idosos consumiam temperos e molhos prontos, respectivamente. Quanto ao consumo de carnes curadas, 92%, consumiam de 1 a 4 vezes por semana. Quanto aos embutidos, destaca-se o consumo de linguiça (24%), mortadela (23%) e salsicha (17%). Dentre os enlatados, destaca-se o consumo de milho verde (32%) e os derivados do leite, observou-se um considerável consumo (49%) de queijo coalho. Conclusão: Verificou-se um maior número de idosos ainda na fase inicial do envelhecimento, com um nível sócioeconômico que os caracteriza como uma população vulnerável, que apresenta um consumo alimentar rico em cloreto de sódio, o que pode comprometer o quadro existente de hipertensão, favorecendo o surgimento de ouras doenças cardíacas. RESUMODurante a pandemia da COVID-19, doença causada pelo novo coronavírus (Sars-CoV-2), o isolamento social se apresentou como uma das medidas mais eficazes para a prevenção da doença e para desacelerar a transmissão do vírus, posto que, inicialmente, era inexistente medidas farmacológicos e/ou tratamento específico. Neste cenário pandêmico, houve um aumento da utilização de tecnologias e mídias, em que nos deparamos com inúmeros recursos digitais, e que passaram a ser o principal meio de interação entre as pessoas. Os podcasts, comparados aos programas de rádio, são outro canal de compartilhamento de conteúdo em formato de arquivo de áudio, permitindo criar conteúdo com temas ilimitados e direcionados a públicos diversos, pois são gravados e permitem que o público determine o tema e o que deseja ouvir. Isto posto, este estudo teve como objetivo descrever um relato de experiência sobre a produção e a difusão de materiais informativos e educativos, por meio da reprodução de podcasts transmitidos via rádio para propagar orientações de nutrição e cuidados com a saúde em tempo da COVID-19, como meio de interação com a população idosa. Para a realização das ações educativas foram produzidos sete podcasts abordando diversos temas como: higienização de embalagens de alimentos, aproveitamento integral dos alimentos, uso de ervas e temperos e sobre o consumo de chás. A reprodução dos podcasts na rádio local mostrou-se um meio de levar informações de saúde aos ouvintes, de forma eficiente e muito mais abrangente, beneficiando não só aos idosos, mas a toda população.
O novo coronavírus, atualmente considerado pandemia pela Organização Mundial de Saúde, já resultou em milhares de casos confirmados de Covid-19 no Brasil. Os principais meios de transmissão da doença consistem no contato com gotículas de saliva ou espirro de pessoas infectadas, compartilhamento de objetos ou contato com superfícies contaminadas, o que justifica tamanha disseminação do vírus pelo mundo. Desse modo, esse artigo teve como objetivo, descrever uma ação educativa elaborada como produto de um projeto de extensão da Faculdade de Ciência da Saúde do Trairi do Rio Grande do Norte, a fim de auxiliar a população em geral sobre medidas de prevenção no que se refere a higienização de embalagens, alimentos e superfícies como bancadas.
