AbstractThis paper investigates the effect of the Bolsa Família Program (PBF) on the nutritional status of children and adolescents beneficiaries. We used data from the Consumer Expenditure Survey (POF-2008(POF- /2009) and the method Propensity Score Matching. The nutritional classification was based on recent recommendations of the World Health Organization. The sample includes children and adolescents under 19 years old and we studied heterogeneous effects of the program in rural and urban areas. The results indicated that the PBF improved the nutritional status of those in the treatment group. The conditionalities on health and education may partially explain these results.
The aim of this paper is to study aggregate consumption in Brazil. We carry out a test to identify whether the consumption process presents habit formation, nonseparability between consumption and leisure, or whether there is a group of creditconstrained consumers. In our empirical exercise we find evidence that consumers are constrained and we reject the habit formation and non-separability hypotheses. Thus, disposable income is an important factor in determining aggregate consumption. Moreover, we carry out tests that enable us to make a robust inference in the presence of weak instruments.
