Le « patrimoine culturel » -une approcheQue signiie en réalité le terme de « patrimoine », terme que l'on retrouve dans les discours politiques, administratifs et diplomatiques depuis plusieurs décennies ? Les usages en français ou en allemand, quoique diférents au premier abord, renvoient pourtant aux mêmes origines sémantiques. En français, le « patrimoine culturel » ou « patrimoine historique » fait étymologiquement allusion au « patrimonium » du droit romain, c'est-à-dire à « l'héritage du père » (1) . En allemand (et dans d'autres langues germaniques), on utilise les expressions « Kulturerbe » ou « geschichtliches Erbe » qui se réfèrent également à des biens matériels ou immatériels légués par les générations précédentes (2) . Cet article s'intéresse aux changements et inléchissements de cette terminologie, et tout particulièrement à ceux observés dans le discours des représentants politiques des réfugiés allemands, populations arrivées dès la in de la Seconde Guerre mondiale des pays d'Europe centrale et orientale. Quelles sont par conséquent les conditions qui ont permis la mutation de ce « patrimoine perdu » en un « patrimoine commun européen » ou simplement un « patrimoine commun » pour reprendre deux expressions actuellement en usage ?
