Este artigo é fruto de uma pesquisa desenvolvida desde o primeiro semestre 2016, tendo como base teórico-metodológica os estudos do discurso e das ciências políticas, além de noções do terreno da geopolítica de conflitos. Aqui apresentamos um dos desdobramentos de uma pesquisa mais ampla intitulada “Discurso, imageria e representação sobre o Outro-Estrangeiro: um estudo sobre linguagem e interculturalidade”. Os dados foram coletados a partir de análise de artigos jornalísticos publicados em mídia on-line entre os anos 2013 e 2018 com uso de termos como “xenofobia”, “discurso de ódio”, “rejeição ao estrangeiro” e “imigrantes”. Como resultado, este estudo vem apontar para uma progressiva recorrência do fenômeno da xenofobia sendo objeto de notícia no discurso jornalístico com reflexos internacionais, sugerindo um trabalho investigativo mais profundo para entender as condições de emergências do discurso de ódio e aversão ao estrangeiro nos últimos anos no Brasil.
