AbstractIn the northwest of the Paraná Basin, between the states of Mato Grosso and Goiás, there are exposures of the Furnas Formation, where the Transbrasiliano Lineament is also recognized. From the analysis of magnetic maps, the geological and geophysical framework of the study area was defined, with six main domains separated by 5 lineaments. The contact between Paraguay Belt and the Goiás Magmatic Arc is marked by the main direction of the Transbrasiliano Lineament in the study area. Other lineaments that occur associated with the deformation direction of the Paraguay Belt have been identified as a minor component of Transbrasiliano Lineament. The description of outcrops along the northwest border of the Paraná Basin allowed the recognition of units I, II and III of the Furnas Formation. The U-Pb data from detrital zircon from the Furnas Formation showed predominance of grain with Neoproterozoic ages (560 -800 Ma), with a minimum age of 526 Ma, and the occurrence of grain with Paleoproterozoic (≈1750/2100 Ma) and Archean (≈2700/2800/3100 Ma) ages. The Frade field, located in Campos Basin, offshore Brazil, is currently being developed using the latest advancements in reservoir mapping-while-drilling (RMWD) systems to aid horizontal well placement and enhance reservoir characterization. The technologies implemented include the high-definition (HD-RMWD), and the three-dimensional (3D-RMWD) systems, which convert ultra-deep electromagnetic measurements into a map of the resistivity profile around the borehole. The HD-RMWD provides multilayer detection using a 1D deterministic parametric inversion engine that provides a detailed 2D resistivity map along the well trajectory, resulting in enhanced capabilities for geosteering and reservoir characterization. This system was implemented in the horizontal wells drilled in Frade since 2022. For landing, an actual vertical detection of around 20 m TVD has helped to set casing in the desired target, identifying the presence of shallower layers—that could result in a poor landing—when present. Within the reservoir, the radial depth of detection achieved with a two-receiver configuration was on the order of 30 m TVD, enough to map top and base of sandstone geobodies while identifying the occurrence and dipping of multiple thin beds. The 3D-RMWD extends the application of this type of technology to the most complex reservoir settings and enables azimuthal geosteering. A set of new measurements—the full 360° electromagnetic tensor—is acquired and transmitted in real time using a new data compression algorithm, and then converted into 3D resistivity volumes derived from a cloud-based 2D transverse inversion technique. Results from the use of the 3D-RMWD technology in Frade—first case in Brazil's offshore operation—showed the 3D mapping capability of different geobodies in a complex geological environment. It also showed how reservoir properties were changing transversally along the well trajectory. A previous-generation RMWD system was used in offshore Brazil for 13 years, and this paper presents the experience gained from using the latest developments. The HD-RMWD system represents a significant advance by providing a finer resistivity map around the borehole, while the 3D-RMWD technology opens a whole new area of application, especially for complex reservoir characterization and provides means for azimuthal geosteering, which is currently an avoided practice.
The Ama-zon Basin has an area of approximately 500.000 km 2 covering part of the states of Pará and Amazonas. The region studied is located in the southwest portion of the basin (near of Itaituba -PA city) and contains sedimentary rocks of the Fanerozoic cover and the basement in the Amazon Central Province. Structural analysis consisted of multiscale analysis and integration of images analysis (recognition of morphotectonics features in images SRTM, using data from aeromagnetometria) and using data from the field to determine structural framework and define the stages of post-paleozoic strain that hit the area. From the data of failures and systems of joints, shear zones, slickenside and steps found in outcrops, were developed the structural and kinematic analysis. The application of the method to determin the paleostress could to set the posit...
The statistical and geometrical properties of ffacture systems were obtained by analyzing remote sense images and outcrop data, in the Region of Guartelá Canyon, in the central-eastem of Paraná State. The probability distributions of fi-actures, with their parameters and attributes, were obtained through extensive statistical exploration of data. These parameters were used as input data for generating 3-D stochastic fi-actures models through the "discrete fi.acture network-DFN" method. The modeling is perfomed by using the code FRED®. To study the persistence of statistical parameters in multiple scales were used remote sensing images (SRTM, Landsat TM7 and aerial photos), covering a scale range from outcrops (few meters) to basin scales (hundreds of kilometers). The results indicated the presence of power-1aw (fi.actal) statistics for the spatial and size distributions. Fractals distributions were found for all sets studied, in some cases with different fi-actal exponents. The implications of ffactal behavior for the generation of discrete fracture network, and consequently for the hydraulic properties, are briefly discussed.
