Background: To determine the most common position of both mental foramen in selected Bangladeshi population. Materials and Methods: This was a cross sectional study. Convenient sampling technique was used. For this seventy five panoramic radiographs of Bangladeshi population were taken from Out Patient Department of MH Samorita dental unit, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Result: The most common Horizontal position of the mental foramen was in line with second premolar (position 4). In vertical axis, the location of MF in lower half of body of mandible was found in all OPGs (100%). Conclusion: The knowledge about the position of the mental foramen may be helpful to the dental surgeons to achieve full anesthesia after nerve block. Aims:This was a cross-sectional study done in the City Dental College, Malibagh, Chowdhurypara. The objective of the study was to assess the level of knowledge about HIV/AIDS among the final year dental students during the period between April to June 2012. A pretested questionnaire was used in English and information was gathered by face to face interview regarding demographic characteristics and HIV/AIDS related knowledge which contained; meaning of HIV/AIDS cause of HIV/AIDS, mode of transmission, risk group, preventive measure. Result:The data were analyzed by computer software SPSS version 17. The study showed that 23.4 percent of the respondents had poor knowledge on HIV/AIDS. About 18.1% know that AIDS can be transmitted if having sexual contact with HIV positive case. Moreover, 13.8% have knowledge about HIV contaminated blood transfusion, 15.1% have knowledge about HIV infected mother to child, 14.6 % know that HIV infection can cause by pricking an infected needle and 10.5% know that it can transmit through body fluids like blood; semen etc. 45.1% had knowledge about injury by infected surgical instrument. Conclusion:The study revealed that the relationship between the knowledge of HIV/AIDS among dental students and sex of the respondents is statistically significant. It is evident that even in the second decade of the AIDS epidemic, final year dental students continue to have a lack of proper knowledge about HIV/AIDS. Training Programme should be arranged on HIV/AIDS for the dental students during clinical attachment. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/updcj.v2i2.15531 Update Dent. Coll. j: 2012; 2 (2): 23-27
This case report describes a case of avulsed left maxillary central incisor tooth which was replanted in the dental office. The tooth was gently rinsed of any debris and placed in normal saline during the examination and preparation of the replantation socket. The tooth was replanted and functionally splinted. The following week the tooth was opened for pulp extirpation and placement of calcium hydroxide. Two weeks later, the root canal was filled with gutta-percha and zinc oxide eugenol sealer, and the access cavity was restored with a bonded composite restoration; the splint was removed. Two year clinical and radiological follow up of the case showed ankylosis and infraocclusion of the replanted toothUpdate Dent. Coll. j: 2015; 5 (1): 30-34
An extremely uncommon tooth developmental anomaly seen such as bilateral primary mandibular first molar with a single root and single canal. Various researchers found that due to failure of invagination of HERS leads to various anomalies in root morphology. A 9 year old girl with pain on lower left side of the jaw originated from mandibular left first molar. On right side there was also presence of 84 with single root. The tooth was treated by pulpectomy followed by restoration. Due to unusual morphology, the chance of endodontic mishaps is extremely high in the search of additional canal, which can be overcome by proper knowledge of root morphology and radiographic interpretation.
