OBJETIVO: O presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar o conhecimento dos estudantes de Medicina da 1Universidade Estadual do Ceará sobre conceitos básicos sobre o SARS-CoV-2 e a COVID-19. MÉTODOS: Foi conduzida uma pesquisa, via formulário online, com estudantes matriculados no referido curso e que consentiram em participar da pesquisa. RESULTADOS: Os principais equívocos cometidos pelos estudantes dizem respeito ao teste padrão para diagnóstico, o material genético viral e o período de incubação da doença. Para mitigar essas lacunas do conhecimento, a Universidade deverá fomentar, entre os acadêmicos, informação científica de qualidade, evitando a disseminação de informações errôneas sobre a pandemia pelos universitários. CONCLUSÃO: Os acadêmicos de Medicina devem primar pelo conhecimento científico baseado em evidências na condução de suas práticas e promoção de informações adequadas à população.
São amplamente conhecidas as alterações neurocognitivas globais relacionadas à infecção pelo HIV. Vários grupos de pesquisa ao redor do mundo têm estudado a presença de variantes do HIV em compartimentos biológicos diferentes, com discordância nos níveis de HIV-RNA entre o plasma e tecidos. O objetivo do presente estudo foi de investigar o escape viral do HIV em um paciente com manifestação neurodegenerativa, em que não se encontrou outro motivo além da própria atividade relacionada ao HIV, a despeito da terapia antirretroviral (TARV) efetiva. Este é um Relato de Caso descritivo baseado em informações retrospectivas obtidas por meio de revisão de prontuário médico, entrevista com o paciente, exames laboratoriais e relatórios arquivados no Serviço de Infectologia do Hospital São José de Doenças Infecciosas (HSJ), em Fortaleza, Ceará. Os dados obtidos indicam que a compartimentalização do HIV no SNC pode ser facilitada por variantes virais de um fenótipo que permite a replicação efetiva em células como micróglia ou monócitos, sobretudo quando considera-se a limitada penetração de TARV através da barreira hematoencefálica, favorecendo a persistência de replicação, o aumento de diversidade genética e a sustentação de reservatórios virais.
