Sustainable development gained prominence in 1992 at the United Nations Conference about Environment and Development, and was presented as a global strategy to ensure society’s access to natural resources. One proposed practice to monitor industrial performance is sustainability indicators, commonly divided into three dimensions: environmental, social and economic. The objective of this work is to present a bibliometric study on the scientific production of Sustainability Indicators (SI) in the Industries, from January 2007 to October 2017. Therefore, the methodology used was Proknow-C, with quantitative and qualitative approach, from the keywords: “Sustainability Indicators” and “Indicators of Sustainability” in the database provided by the Scopus platform. The papers selected for the composition of the final portfolio contribute to the construction of knowledge about the proposed theme, offering a broad view of Sustainability Indicators applied to industries. A total of 28 sustainability indicators were identified, of which 11 are related to the environmental dimension, which correspond to three aspects (water, energy and gases emitted), 7 in the economic dimension, framed in two aspects (present value in the plant and investment) and 10 in the social dimension, corresponding to the aspects of accidents, comfort / safety and training. The survey of the Sustainability Indicators allows establishing guidelines for the construction of a management system aligned with the sustainability dimensions in the industries
Industries use management models and tools to meet environmental standards, while maintaining economic growth at a sustainable level. There is a growing body of knowledge about the implementation of cleaner production methods; however, questions as to which tools to use in the collection and analysis of data about the production process, or how to prioritize actions for improvement of the production process, have not yet been adequately addressed. This article evaluates models in order to obtain a method that integrates the concept of cleaner production integrated method (CPIM) with quality management tools and techniques. Cleaner production methods alone are very vague and the application of its stages is far from clear. So the use of quality management tools would give the much required support for the implementation of cleaner production programmes. To evaluate this model, a case study is presented in an industry in the food sector. This research has enabled the analysis of the applicability of the method and its impact in reducing waste generation and consumption of natural resources. As a result, a 19 per cent reduction was obtained in total waste generation and 35 per cent reduction in waste generation in the main sector where the method was applied.
Supplier’s management plays an important role in cost and quality performance of purchasing companies. This important role has provided the growth of studies on the application of multi-criteria analysis method in manufacturing companies, although, with less impact on the services sector, mainly in the healthcare sector. For that reason, this research aimed to show the results of Fuzzy AHP multi-criteria analysis method application in a university teaching hospital, with the purpose of improving the operation and internal management of pharmacy suppliers. Among the main results and contributions of the research, it is an elaborated description of each step of the method, followed by contextualization of the sector, revealing the application of fuzzy inference in the analysis of variables mostly qualitative in this specific sector. The findings of this study can provide the managers with valuable insights into the dimensions that reflect decision making when choosing suppliers in the setting of a university teaching hospital. By knowing these criteria, hospitals can increase their quality of service by selecting the best supply options for medical and hospital supplies, providing better service to patients.
This paper presents the evaluation of two metaheuristics to solve the Unrelated Parallel Machine Scheduling Problem with Sequence Machine Dependent Setup Time. Considering such a problem, there is no relation between the time to process each task and the machine; and this is why the machines are referred to as unrelated. Furthermore, the setup time between the executions of two tasks depends on both, the task sequence and its associated machine. A metaheuristic genetic algorithm and a variable neighborhood search were used in order to solve the problem due to the difference among their characteristics. The maximal time for the schedule to be completed, also called makespan, was the performance measure used to evaluate the solutions. The results obtained by both metaheuristics were directly compared according to their performance to try to reduce this makespan. The results showed that the variable neighborhood algorithm search outperformed the genetic algorithm regarding the solutions quality and execution time.
152 INDEPENDENT JOURNAL OF MANAGEMENT & PRODUCTION (IJM&P)http://www. ijmp.jor.br v. 7, n. 1, January -March 2016 ISSN: 2236 The obtained major improvements have been the reduction of machine setup time, reducing lead-time of item processing, the material flow within the production cell, and creating conditions for a more flexible management of the production schedule.
Micro and small companies are lighting up in numbers and economic importance in the Brazilian market. In the sector of services, they already account for 27% of GDP. Given this importance, the purpose of this paper is to analyze how the integration of tools such as Planning Programming and Control of Production tools, together with the Quality Engineering tools such as performance management through indicators, can help to achieve the objectives of the organizations, especially small business, in the sales area. Boosting thus, strategically, these organizations to achieve and exceed their sales goals, become increasingly competitive, and growing in size and quality of service. The results obtained through the case study were satisfactory in 2014, where the signs of a crisis were already indicated in the country, this small business increased its sales by 12% compared to the year 2013.Keywords: Performance Management; Quality Tools; Sales Strategy; Goals.
