Background: psychological problems are prevailing among university students, which need the attention of university management, government, social workers, and counsellors as well. Aims: to find out the prevalence of depression, anxiety, stress among students, and their level of perceived social support. Study also aims to find the impact of perceived social support on psychological problems (depression, anxiety, and stress). Methodology: Cross sectional survey designed was used to collect data, from 200 university students (m=100; f=100). They were selected through purposive sampling technique from various universities of Karachi, Pakistan with mean age (21.79 ±2.970). Depression anxiety stress scale (DASS-21) was used to measure the student’s level of depression, anxiety and stress (Lovibond & lovibond, 1995). Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MPSS) (Zimet et al. 1988) was used to measure social support. Regression analysis was used to test assumption. Results: In our sample out of 200 students, 58%, 69%, 40% have mild to severe level of depression, anxiety and stress respectively. Perceived social supports predict 6%depression and 2% anxiety in our sample respectively. Conclusion: Depression, Anxiety and Stress are highly prevailing among university students. Perceived social support is negatively associated with depression, anxiety and stress. While perceived social support is a significant negative predictor of depression and anxiety. Implications: It is implicated that university students needs counselling services as they are having high rate of psychological problems and low levels of perceived social support. University management should develop policies and programs for increasing perceived social support among students. Future research should look at role of coping in influence of perceived social support on psychological problems.
Background: Nursing is among the various occupations that require management of emotions according to the job demands. Emotional labor and lack of reward are the main sources of mental health outcomes among the nurses. It is very important that more researches, which contemplate the emotional labor importance and unfavorable mental health effects, be carried out. Aim: This study was aimed to investigate the effect of perceived organizational Support on emotional labor among nurses. Method: The present study was a correlational study, consist of 200 nurses both Male nurses (N=100) and Females nurses (N=100), from different hospitals and clinics. Age ranged from 20 to 51 years (M= 30.50; S.D= 4.40). Data of the study was collected through convenient sampling technique. Participants were assessed by Shorten Version of Survey of Perceived Organizational Support (Eisenberger et al, 1986) in order to measure perceived organizational support and Dutch Questionnaire on Emotional Labor (D-QEL) (Näring, Briët, & Brouwers, 2007) in order to assess emotional labor. Results: The results revealed that perceived organizational support significantly predicts emotional labor. By improving the perception of organizational support among nurses, the experience of emotional labor can be reduced. Conclusion: The purpose of the present study was to develop a health-care model of emotional labor which could help the organizations to understand the role of perceived organizational support on the reactions to the strain of the emotional labor. The present study revealed that perceived organizational support is a significant predictor of emotional labor. Informal types of organizational support (e.g., a perception that the organization is concerned with one's personal life) are important for expatriate success, and should be incorporated into expatriate programs.
The aim of the research is to investigate that emotional intelligence and self-esteem in male and female school students. The present research design is research cross sectional design. Sample contained 200 students (100 =male, 100= female) (mean age = 14.16, SD = 0.740) all belonging to the upper, middle and lower Scio economic status. Whole sample was collected from different schools of Karachi, Pakistan with the help of convenient sampling technique. First, the confidentiality about the participants demographic information was assured after that about the purpose and procedure of research explained to participants. The participants who given consent of participation in research, the demographic form, Urdu version of Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (Rosenberg, 1965), and Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire (TEIQue) (K.V. Petrides) were administered on them. Statistical Analysis (t-Test for independent) applied to assess the difference of emotional intelligence and self esteem among male and female.The results reveals there is significant difference among emotional intelligence of male and female school students (t (198) = 6.597, P< .05) and there is also significant difference in self esteem of male and female school students (t (198) = 2.837, P< .05).
The purpose of the present study was to survey teachers views on the performance evaluation methods employed in the wolkite, Wachemo and Welaita sodo University. 280 randomly selected participants from the three universities were involved in the survey. Data gathered through questionnaire survey were analyzed using descriptive analysis method. The questionnaire surveys were used to examine the teachers views on the existing evaluation method. The present finding revealed that the performance evaluation method lacks objectivity, do not support teacher’s professional development and the evaluation procedures are in accordance with the purpose of evaluation. Based on the findings and discussions of study, conclusion and recommendations were forwarded.
Background: Students face depression, anxiety and stress because of anger that effect their education. Aim: The aim of the present study was to explore the relationship between anger and depression, anxiety and stress in university students. Methodology: It was based on hypotheses that a) Anger would be positively correlated with Depression, b) Anger would be positively correlated with Anxiety, c) Anger would be positively correlated with Stress. Sample consisted of 200 participants; data was collected from Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Results: To explore the main hypothesis of research, person correlation coefficient was applied on the data. Significant relationship between anger and depression, anxiety and stress. Conclusion: Students need care of family and counseling center in university. Teachers also need counseling to handle the students. This research is effective for students, parents and teachers.
