The present study was accomplished to examine and compare the effect of specific antioxidant-rich oils on hyperglycemia, dyslipidemia, renal function markers and oxidative renal damage in diabetic rats for four weeks. Papaya (P), olive (O), fenugreek (Fe), bitter gourd (B) and fish (Fi) oils were used for this purpose. Streptozotocin (STZ) was injected intraperitoneally in a single dose to induce diabetes. All oils were given orally at a dose of 3g/kg for four weeks in respective group after induction of diabetes. After treatment with oils, blood was collected, and their kidneys were stored. The level of fasting blood glucose (FBG), glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C) and very low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (VLDL-C) increased while amylase and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) level decreased in the diabetic rats. These changes were augmented by fenugreek, bitter gourd and olive oils treatment. Diabetic rats showed elevated renal function markers in serum, including, serum creatinine (Scr), blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP), which were restrained significantly by fenugreek and bitter gourd oil treatment. Moreover, fenugreek and bitter gourd oils treatment significantly modulated the level of thiobarbituric reactive substances (TBARS), malonaldehyde (MDA) and catalase (CAT) in the kidney of diabetic rats. The histopathological examination also showed the protective effect of these oils. The study suggests that vegetable oils are effective in reducing hyperglycemia, dyslipidemia and renal damage related to the side effects of diabetes. Thus they may have therapeutic value for preventing diabetes side effects and may be included in oil diet treatment synergically. Thus, our data suggest that oils as potent antidiabetic agent and beneficial in the control of diabetes-related abnormalities such as hyperglycemia, dyslipidemia and renal damage of STZ induced rat model of type 2 diabetes. Our study also supports the suggestion that synergistic possibilities exist concerning the use of these oils in the treatment of diabetes mellitus.
Glutathione-S-transferase also referred as GST is one of the major detoxification enzymes in parasitic helminths. The crucial role played by GST in various chronic infections has been well reported. The dependence of nematodes on detoxification enzymes to maintain their survival within the host established the crucial role of GST in filariasis and other related diseases. Hence, this well-established role of GST in filariasis along with its greater nonhomology with its human counterpart makes it an important therapeutic drug target. Here in this study, we have tried to explore the inhibitory potential of some of the well-reported natural ant-filarial compounds against the GST from Wuchereria bancrofti (W.bancrofti) and Brugia malayi (B.malayi). In silico virtual screening, approach was used to screen the selected natural compounds against GST from W.bancrofti and B.malayi. On the basis of our results, here we are reporting some of the natural compounds which were found to be very effective against GSTs. Along with we have also revealed the characteristic of the active site of BmGST and WbGST and the role of important active site residues involve in the binding of natural compounds within the active site of GSTs. This information will oped doors for using natural compounds as anti-filarial therapy and will also be helpful for future drug discovery.
In many aspects of life quality, bio-contaminants and indoor air quality have had catastrophic consequences, including a negative impact on human health with an increased prevalence of allergic respiratory reactions, asthma, and infectious diseases. We aimed to evaluate the quality of indoor air environment and find out the association between human health and indoor air pollution and also to assess the physical health status of a group of Saudi and non-Saudi populations during this pandemic. Also, we aimed to assess the most common health condition or symptoms associated with ventilation. A questionnaire was distributed online to test indoor air quality, ventilation status, common signs and symptoms of any allergy or mental status and their relationship to certain variables. A total of 362 respondents were included. Before living in the current home, flu or Influenza and chapped lips were more prevalent than allergies and chapped lips signs while living in the current home. (12.2% , 10.8% vs. 18.5% , 13.55% before and after respectively) Multiple colds were the second most common symptom (10.2%). Hoarse voice and headaches were the least common symptoms experienced; each constituted 4.4%. During the COVID-19 Pandemic, most respondents wore a facemask, approximately 76.5%; and almost one-third of respondents had bright natural light inside the current home (43.1%). The presence of natural light within the current home was significantly associated with symptoms experienced during living in the current house (p<0.05). Natural sunlight exposure could decrease allergic symptoms and minor health problems associated with poor ventilation and air quality indoors. In current living homes, the majority of respondents never used air purifiers (72.9 percent). In order to get attention from people to enhance the quality and ventilation mechanism of indoor air, special care and awareness of the effects of the use of air purifiers on human health is needed.
There is growing interest in finding healthier meals that offer more than just nutritional benefits. Meat and meat products are consumed all over the world, so it is possible to use them as matrices to make sure that people get enough bioactive components from their food. Besides extending the meat product's shelf-life and improving its composition (by integrating antioxidant molecules), it could also help people stay healthy by lowering lipid oxidative products. In this review, we look at whether developing and eating functional meat products is a viable method for improving meat composition and stability and reducing the oxidative consequences associated with the consumption of meat intake. The inclusion of plant bioactive compounds and antioxidants in meat products should protect the composition and quality of functional meat and meat products as well as the customers' health status. The key plant components with antioxidant capabilities employed in the composition of functional meat products will be discussed in this review.
