Abstract. In some countries quite a number of construction projects that are either not completed or out rightly abandoned. This paper is an overview on abandoned construction projects, and the causes and effects due to the formidable situation relating to this issue. This was conducted referring to the studies and findings in the thesis and journals on abandoned projects. Few probable causes and effects are identified from various researchers based on studies conducted by them on this issue. It is found that most of the studies on the related matter was conducted mainly using questionnaires and also by conducting interviews with the relevant parties. There were various probable causes and implications that was identified from the studies and analysis that was carried out, which does not differ much from one another, and in fact some have suggested the mitigation measures for this issue. After reviewing the research and studies that has been conducted on the issue of abandoned projects, as a conclusion, it is notable to have a more thorough investigation on the existing problem up to this date and look into the whole issue from different aspects in depth.Introduction.
Construction delay is a common problem in the construction industry. It is important to study this problem by investigating the overview of previous study on the issue of project delays and potential solutions to overcome it. Review of literatures shows the causes and necessary suggestions in project delays which is plaguing the construction industry in different nations. Various causes have been identified and suggestions have been poured out to minimize the problem as much as possible. Delay in projects is something that couldn't be avoided looking at the situation of the construction industry especially in developing countries. Delay in projects happen somewhere during the construction process, and some even at the point of completion of a construction project. The delivery of a construction project on time and according to the expected budget is very much needed. The unsuccessfulness on doing so, has invited many research on this issue to determine and investigate the causes and as well the effect of project delays in the construction industry. There are sectors in Malaysia that contributes to the country's economy, and the construction industry is one of it. This paper is an overview of the issue of a project delay, where the seriousness of this issue could be understood and may help to invite some researchers to proffer solution to this situation in the coming future.
The construction industry in Malaysia plays a vital role in meeting with people’s needs and increasing the quality of life of the society as well. However, it must be noted that most of the construction projects are failed to complete on time. It is also not uncommon for construction projects to be delayed, or in the worst scenario even abandoned due to various reasons, which has been studied by researches from Malaysia and other countries as well. This study was conducted to identify the significant factors contributing towards the restoration of abandoned residential projects in Malaysia. This study also touches on the factors for non-revival/discontinuation of the abandoned projects too. In the purpose of doing so, data was collected using questionnaires from a certain targeted group for this study. The data collected was further analyzed, which resulted on the determination of the most important factors to the least. From the analysis too, the reliability of the questionnaire was also established, where it is suggested as a tool for further research on the related issue.
Plastering is the most important activity in construction works. It is done widely as a finishing technology for interior and exterior walls made of bricks, concrete or timber, as it provides heat insulation, sound absorption and protection against air pollution and weather, thus providing a clean, level surface for further finishing tasks. Plastering work usually consumes time and involves a lot of cement wastage. A trowel is used as a tool in plastering work but yet time consumption is high in completing the work. It is because the design of the trowels and the quality of the trowel itself is not suitable for plasterers. This study focuses on designing a smart trowel tool for smooth plastering work for low-cost residential building, and to compare the time consumption for the smart trowel tool with the conventional method. The smart trowel tool was tested with 4 experts from the construction industry at the end. The main aspect that was taken into consideration in determining the most suitable materials to build this tool was the time factor in conducting and completing the plastering works. The feedbacks given through expert validation was positive and suggested that such a tool should be marketed in the related field. This is mainly because the smart trowel tool that was build tends to give comfortability and convenience to its’ users. The tool further plays the role of as environmentally friendly that contributes towards sustainability. Lastly, the smart trowel tool consumes lesser time compared to the conventional method.
