Pistacia khinjuk is a deciduous tree of cashew family Anacardiaceae. It is an important medicinal plant that has various pharmacological properties in folk and modern medicine including antidiabetic, antihyperlipidemic, anticholinesterase, antiinflammatory and antiasthmatic. Pistacia khinjuk fruit has potent bioactive phytocompounds significantly present in essential oil having antioxidant, antifungal, antibacterial, antileishmanial and functional potential. Pistacia khinjuk fruit essential oil possesses good therapeutic capability as it has a crucial role in numerous diseases. The main purpose of this review study was to report Pistacia khinjuk characteristics, their composition, bioactive potential and key role in food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical applications.
