Borrelia burgdorferi, es la espiroqueta responsable de ocasionar la enfermedad de Lyme en el hombre y diferentes animales. Objetivo. Detectar anticuerpos tipo IgG específicos ontra Borrelia burgdorferi, en caninos mediante la técnica de inmunofluorescencia y su correlación con otros factores asociados a la enfermedad de Lyme. Métodos. Se tomó sangre para detección de IgG contra Borrelia burgdorferi sl; frotis de sangre periférica de los caninos y hemolinfa de las garrapatas para búsqueda de espiroquetas con la coloración de Wright y finalmente clasificación de las garrapatas mediante claves morfométricas. Resultados. En la prueba serológica en promedio el 69.0 % de los caninos muestreados dieron positivos en las diferentes titulaciones. Se visualizaron estructuras bacterianas de forma espiral tanto en la sangre periférica de los caninos, como en la hemolinfa de las garrapatas, el vector encontrado se clasificó como Rhipicephalus sanguineus, hasta ahora no reportado en la literatura científica como portador de Borrelia, ni asociado a la enfermedad.
