Concerns about the possible impacts of short‐wavelength light from solid‐state lighting and ever‐brighter visual displays on optical health are growing. But what does the research really tell us?
As visual displays for computers, televisions, tablets and mobile phones grow brighter (and larger), concerns about their emissions of short‐wavelength (“blue”) light have emerged. This paper reviews the evidence underling these concerns, including the potential for blue‐light hazard, visual discomfort, and circadian disruption.
The authors have created an architecture that optimizes image processing across a complex display ecosystem, including smartphones, tablets, and desktop panels.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
