This research aims to analyse the opinions of the students from the POLITEHNICA University of Bucharest in connection with their future career. Based on a number of hypotheses outlined in the informal meetings we analysed the attitude of these young persons about professional success using two personality tests measuring significant parameters in defining it (the impact of the others / of the external pressures on the actions and personal choices, the force of subjective values, the possibility to predict one’s own behaviour and the behaviour of the others, commitment etc.). The results of the respondents highlighted the need to develop / deepen competencies in the field of soft skills in order to adapt to the rigors of today's labour market, in which self-knowledge and interpersonal skills are at least as important as technical and practical knowledge.
Quite a few multinational IT companies in Bucharest, with offices in various cities in Romania, use e-trainers that deliver to employees at these offices, various forms of online training programs, depending on their type: employees during their trial period, employees that need continuous training or the ones that require training to be promoted to higher career levels. The present paper aims to identify the level of e-learning facilitation through the use of specific tools for each type of e-training (induction e-training, on-boarding e-training, skill development e-training) identified as being frequently practiced by IT multinational companies. We are working with the following hypothesis: we are expecting that the tools used in each of the e-trainings contributes to the formation of the basic competences needed to retain and promote employees. In order to verify the working hypothesis, we are trying to answer the following questions: What are the specific tools used for each type of e-training? To what degree do the online evaluation tasks have firstly constituted tasks for learning and development of new abilities? The research was run during May-September 2014, on a lot of 20 IT companies in Bucharest, that work with Politehnica University in Bucharest, on various areas of interest. We have used as a data collection instrument, the survey applied on a lot of 200 employees of these IT companies, who benefit from such online trainings. Also, we have used the case study to analyse the tools used in these e-trainings. The obtained results confirm the research hypothesis.
The present paper aims to identify the representations of final year students regarding their future career, by measuring the degree of satisfaction regarding the way in which the educational process (teaching-learning-evaluation axis) took place and by analysing their beliefs regarding the place and importance of the engineering profession on the labour market, in order to customize career counselling and orientation services. All these elements are revealed afterwards in the form of academic results obtained by students and their insertion rate into the labour market after graduation, representing a relevant feedback regarding the quality of the education process. As research method we have used the survey-based research, on a lot of 100 students from the first study year from the Faculty of IMST. The data was processed using the IBM SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) Software Suite and the result emphasizes a significant percentage of positive beliefs regarding the profession and one’s own professional route.
Well-known as a learning management system, Moodle complements the instructive-educational process by providing it with an online component. The philosophy that started Moodle includes a social-constructivist approach to education, emphasizing the fact that students and not only teachers can bring their value to the educational experience. By applying these pedagogical principles Moodle offers a flexible environment for learning communities. Politehnica University of Bucharest is composed at present of 15 faculties, each having their own Moodle instance. The Moodle platform allows teachers to view the contribution of every student, allowing them to grade them according to their contribution, to intervene and correct wrong information or to lead the conversation in the direction desired by teachers. The present paper aims to identify the degree of efficiency of the Moodle platform from the perspective of teachers, as users, in complementing the teaching activity and improving learning among students. In order to achieve this goal, we will analyze 2 levels of progressive evaluation for the measurement of the e-learning efficiency which are: level 1 - reaction (measures what the participants generally believe about the e-learning platform), level 2 - learning (measures what effectively is being learnt). From the perspective of these 2 levels we are interested to see: What is the opinion of teachers regarding the various features of the Moodle LMS? How is learning assured on the platform judging by the content and interactivity offered to students? The research was realized on a lot of 150 teachers from Politehnica University of Bucharest and we have used as research methods the case study and the survey. The obtained results indicate that the Moodle platform represents an efficient complementary component in teaching and evaluation.
