O presente artigo examina a produção acadêmico-militar do Exército Brasileiro na área do meio ambiente, selecionada da base de dados da biblioteca da Escola de Comando e Estado-Maior do Exército (ECEME), entre 1992 e 2010. Esse recorte temporal apoia-se (fundamenta-se, baseia-se) na realização das duas grandes conferências das Nações Unidas sobre o meio ambiente e desenvolvimento, realizadas no Rio de Janeiro, cujos reflexos se fizeram sentir em vários setores da sociedade brasileira, incluindo as Forças Armadas do Brasil. A produção científica da ECEME pode ser considerada como o alicerce do pensamento acadêmico-militar terrestre brasileiro, uma vez que nessa instituição são realizados cursos militares de pós-graduação lato sensu, no nível de especialização, e stricto sensu, nos níveis de mestrado e doutorado acadêmico. A metodologia para a elaboração deste artigo compreendeu levantamento bibliográfico realizado por meio de sistema automatizado na base de dados já instituída da ECEME; leitura integral dos estudos selecionados e posterior análise coletiva dos trabalhos, quando foi possível identificar as principais abordagens e o grau de relevância conferido ao tema. O artigo conclui que, apesar de existir uma produção acadêmico-militar meritória sobre o tema ambiental, produzida nas duas últimas décadas, esta ainda é pulverizada e não homogênea. Não obstante, constitui material significativo para a formulação de um futuro pensamento acadêmico-militar sobre o tema.
