The social educator offers a set of practices aimed at children/adolescents in institutional care. This study aimed to analyze the practices of social educators based on narratives of photographic records in a residential group homes for children and adolescents in the Southern Brazil. Ten adults participated. Photographic recording and narrative interview script were used and analyzed based on the acquired data. The care provided surpassed the assistance for basic needs, a relevant aspect for practices carried out in a humanized and comprehensive manner. Favorable conditions were identified for the expression of play through creativity, and recognition of life history and aspects of development. The results indicated involvement in care, and this can strengthen continuing education strategies in line with current public policies.
O presente artigo objetivou realizar uma revisão sistemática das pesquisas empíricas sobre educadores sociais em abrigos destinados a crianças e adolescentes. Foram consultados os artigos disponíveis nas plataformas (Google Acadêmico, SciELO, Redalyc, Periódicos CAPES/MEC, Pepsic e BVS Psicologia Brasil) para identificar as pesquisas publicadas no período de 2015 a 2020. Dez artigos incluídos foram categorizados em cinco categorias: Vivência, Vínculo, Prática, Transtornos Mentais, e Formação. Destacou-se a importância dos educadores enquanto atores sociais e aspectos das necessidades deles: reconhecer os afetos, pois o cuidado se apresentou como uma tarefa, e assim, revelou risco de adquirir um caráter operacional e assistencialista; capacitação inicial baseada em critérios de qualidade; formação continuada com o apoio e parceria de profissionais que possuam conhecimento reconhecido no assunto e oferta de serviços de assistência psicológica e psiquiátrica. Trata-se de uma temática de estudo que possibilita a análise de aspectos psicossociais para o desenvolvimento de intervenções com o foco nas necessidades dos educadores sociais.
