ABSTRACTThis paper discusses the understanding of polytechnics in the collective discourse of a group of 52 teachers from the 1st year of 13 high school polytechnics from a city in the State of Rio Grande do Sul. In the second half of 2016 and the first half of 2017, a interview with a teacher from each area of knowledge. The discursive material was analyzed with the technique of the Discourse of the Collective Subject -DSC. In the discourse on the understanding of polytechnics, the teachers present questions that show a non-appropriation of this concept, delegating to the directive team the responsibility to explain the same. They associate polytechnics with the teaching of various techniques that prepare them for the labor market or the integration of the areas of knowledge. The study shows that the different curricular restructuring proposals implemented, such as the Polytechnic High School (2012) and the National Curricular Common Base (2017) are capable of generating confusion among cultures by raising questions about ideas, technologies and social organization and to foster the emergence of other cultures of teacher training.
