Poco se conoce y poco se ha estudiado la poesía de Eduardo Santa (1927-2020. Su intensa actividad como académico e investigador y su abundante producción narrativa primaron en el panorama de las letras colombianas convirtiendo su faceta lírica en una casa en la penumbra «hermosamente triste / y solitaria».Su trayectoria de más de setenta años de actividad, publicaciones en grandes editoriales, revistas académicas, reediciones y traducciones solo nos deja dos poemarios publicados. Su primer libro, Sonoro zarzal (1947), es uno de ellos. Sin embargo, esta obra no solo no fue reeditada, sino que su única tirada sucumbió a las llamas sentenciada por su implacable autor, y hoy en día son muy pocos los ejemplares que se conservan para dar testimonio de una poesía que, «lánguida, ululante y penumbrosa como el alma del crepúsculo, deviene sobre la propia percepción del litoral de la tristeza» 1 , tal como la describió Eliseo Pérez Cadalso en el prólogo que acompañó a esta opera prima bajo el sello editorial Espiral, dirigido por el intelectual español exiliado, impulsor de la literatura colombiana, Clemente Airó.Casi cincuenta años, una vida de testigo, de contradictor, de cronista de los eventos más trascendentales y dolorosos del siglo XX en Colombia y una notoria carrera académica median entre la decisión de sacar a la luz su poemario juvenil y la edición de la que sería su segunda y última antología poética, publicada por cuenta propia: El paso de las nubes (1995). Sin embargo, son más los puentes que las distancias que hay entre ambas obras, pero, sobre todo, entre su producción poética y su narrativa. No estamos ante cincuenta años de silencio poético ni ante dos raros islotes líricos en la obra del narrador, sino ante un persistente desarrollo, a través de las décadas, de una poética de la memoria.«Sombras, sombras, pasos lentos / de soledad que me acechan, / ¡Ingrávidas cosas idas, / cadáveres de voces muertas!» 2 gime la voz precozmente atormentada de Sonoro zarzal
