O traumatismo cranioencefálico (TCE) é uma lesão advinda de um trauma externo que gera alterações cranianas, podendo causar fraturas ou afetar as estruturas cerebrais ocasionando prejuízos cognitivos ou funcionais, permanentes ou momentâneos. O presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar o desfecho funcional do paciente de trauma cranioencefálico após a alta da UTI, traçando o perfil sociodemográfico e verificando o tempo de permanência no setor, o nível de independência funcional, o grau de força muscular entre outras variáveis importantes. A pesquisa foi de caráter exploratório, transversal, descritivo e de abordagem quantitativa dos dados coletados. A coleta de dados foi realizada em um hospital de referência em Trauma na cidade de Fortaleza/CE, no período de maio a setembro/2018. A amostra do estudo foi de 57 pacientes onde houve 14 óbitos, sendo a idade média de 37,32 ± 18,13 anos. Houve o acometimento de deformidades tais como lesões por pressão 39,53% (n=17) e fraturas de face 13,95% (n=6). Com tempo de permanência da UTI em média de a 20,30 ± 16,18 dias. Os valores da Escala de Medical Research Council (MRC) e Escala de Medida de Independência Funcional (MIF) se correlacionam visto que apenas três pacientes foram classificados com independência funcional enquanto 100% da amostra apresentaram valores abaixo da normalidade para a força muscular. Conclui-se que os pacientes de TCE após alta da UTI manifestam prejuízos como fraqueza muscular grave, nível de independência prejudicado afetando sua qualidade de vida.
