In den w~thrend der letzten anderthalb Jahrzehnte erschienenen zahlreichen Untersuchungen fiber die Geschlechtszellenbildung wirbelloser Tiere hat neben den viel erSrterten Problemen des Reduktionsvorganges, des Synapsisstadiums und der GrSssenunterschiede der Chromosomen auch das Studium der yon Montgomery so genannten Heterochromosomen in besonderem Mal~e die Aufmerksamkeit der Forscher gefesselt. Unsere Kenntnis der Heterochromosomen datiert seit der merkwtirdigen Beobachtung Henkings (1891), dass in der $permiogenese 1) yon Pyrrhocoris apterus bei der zweiten Reifungsteilung ein Chromosom ungeteilt in die eine Tochterzelle tibergeht, so dass zweierlei Spermideu-solche mit und solche ohne jenes Chromosom-entstehen. Schon diesem Autor war in den S1)ermiocyten der grosse, mit Chromatinfarbstoffen stark tingierbare und w~thrend der ganzen Wachstumsperiode ausserst konstante Nucleolus aufgefallen, und es lhsstsich bereits aus seiner Darstel!ung mit gewisser Wahrscheinlichkeit eine Beziehung zwischen diesem ,,Nucleolus" und dem nur in die Halfte der Spermiden tibergehenden Chromatinelement ableiteiL Mit Sicherheit wird eine solche Beziehung erst in spateren Untersuchungen all anderen Objekten behauptet, und zwar in dem Sinne, dass jenes im Verlaufe tier Reifangsteilungen nur in die Halfte der Spermiden gelangende Element wahrend der Wachstumsperiode des Spermiocyten nicht wie die tibrigeu Chromosomen in ein mehr oder minder deutliches Ruhestadium eintrete, sondern unter der Gestalt eines bTucleolus in dem sonst nur ffir den ~) Entsprechend dem Vorschlage v.
