Este trabalho tem como proposta apresentar questões relacionadas aos jogos e as brincadeiras no processo de desenvolvimento infantil e tem como ponto central “os jogos e as brincadeiras e suas contribuições no processo de desenvolvimento infantil” e como objetivo geral, analisar as contribuições dos jogos e das brincadeiras no processo de desenvolvimento infantil bem como a aprendizagem inclusa nesse processo. Para atingir tal objetivo, planejou-se a divisão do trabalho em duas etapas: pesquisa bibliográfica cuja finalidade é colocar o pesquisador em contato com o que já se produziu e registrou a respeito do seu tema de pesquisa com base em autores como Oliveira (2000), Kishimoto (1997, 2000, 2003), Vygotski (1998), entre outros; e realizou-se uma pesquisa empírica tendo como sujeitos 05 (seis) professores que trabalham na área de Educação Infantil e/ou que estão no último ano de formação acadêmica aos quais poderemos encontrá-los em escolas públicas ou privadas e em universidades/faculdades. Os resultados desses estudos nos permitiram entender que o brincar na educação infantil possui um papel fundamental na conquista da autonomia e aprendizagem da criança e que o lúdico torna-se um instrumento essencial para a obtenção do conhecimento das crianças se caracteriza por proporcionar uma aprendizagem mais prazerosa e satisfatória e uma melhor compreensão não apenas dos conteúdos ministrados em ambiente escolar, mas também da realidade que a cerca.
