To evaluate the degree of marginal sealing and adhesive strength in Bulk-Fill resin by applying 18% EDTA gel compared to 37% phosphoric acid gel in dental conditioning. Materials and methods. The study was transversal, experimental comparative, and applied. The sample group consisted of 60 teeth with Class I cavities, which were later subjected to conditioning. This was carried out separately with phosphoric acid gel for 15 seconds, and 18% EDTA gel within two different time frames: 60 and 90 seconds. All samples were incubated at 37ºC for a period of 24 hours and thermocycled between 5 to 55ºC for 500 cycles. To assess microfiltration, they were immersed in methylene blue at 37ºC for 4 hours, and were later sectioned and observed through a stereomicroscope. In order to perform the traction, the conventional testing machine was used at a speed of 0.75mm/min until the screw with the resin detached. Results: Samples conditioned with 37% phosphoric acid showed a greater degree 1 microfiltration and a mean adhesive resistance of 7.97 MPa. The same number of microfiltration grades 1 and 2 was found when using EDTA gel for 60 seconds, with a mean tensile strength of 8.8MPa. On the other hand, applying EDTA gel for 90 seconds showed mostly grade 1 microfiltrations, and to a lesser extent, grade 0 and 2, with a mean resistance of 9.2 MPa.
Conclusion:There are no statistically significant differences regarding adhesive strength between the two gels; however, better marginal filling was observed when samples were conditioned with 18% EDTA gel for 90 seconds.
Aim: To compare the in vitro antibacterial activity of different types of hydroalcoholic extracts of the leaves of the Mangifera indica L. (mango) plant on the strain of Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538™. Materials and methods: This study was experimental in vitro and determined the antibacterial activity of four dilutions: Mangifera indica L. ethanol extract (MEE) and Mangifera indica L. hydroalcoholic extract (MHE) at 50% and 100% on cultures of S. aureus ATCC 6538™ comparing with the positive control (chlorhexidine 0.12%) and negative (alcohol 96°) in Mueller Hinton agar cultures using the Kirby-Bauer diffusion method for each study group and incubating the cultures at 37°C for 24 hours. Results: It was found that the 50% and 100% MEE had a smaller size of the inhibitory halo of 21.3 ± 0.5 and 24.1 ± 0.8 mm, respectively. In addition, with respect to the 50% and 100% MHE, it was found that they had a higher antibacterial activity of 24.6 ± 0.5 and 33.5 ± 1.2 mm, respectively. Conclusion: Mango leaf extracts are potent antibacterial, proving 100% MHE to be more effective, thus confirming the presence of active constituents in medicinal plants. Clinical significance: This research has a great clinical applicability due to the opening of research lines that prove the usefulness of these extracts in the therapeutic control of certain oral diseases.
Objective. To evaluate the bibliometric profile of the national academic production of public and private medical schools in Scopus after the publication of a new university law (2015–2020). Methods. A descriptive bibliometric study was conducted. The secondary data corresponding to the 42 Peruvian medical schools that had scientific publications in Scopus from 2015 to 2020 were evaluated, and the Affiliation ID of each Peruvian institution was considered. Data were analysed using SciVal. Results. The total production of the Peruvian medical schools was 5406 manuscripts (100%), of which 3018 (56%) were included in the ‘clinical medicine’ category. The total production of publications in Peru from 2015 to 2020 was 21597 manuscripts, of which medical publications accounted for 7950, with only 5406 manuscripts belonging to the Faculties of Medicine of Peru. The Peruvian Journal of Experimental Medicine and Public Health had published the highest number of manuscripts (500 articles), with an approximate publication citation of two. Conclusion. There was a constant increase in the scientific production of Peruvian medical schools from 2015 to 2020. Additionally, it was found that medical publications contribute the most to the total scientific production of Peru.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
