The reactions of normal and deuterated methanols with H/D atoms have been studied in an isothermal discharge flow reactor (500 ≤ T(K) ≤ 680) at low pressures (2–8 mbar). Samples were withdrawn by a molecular beam sampling system directly into the ion source of a mass spectrometer. Concentration measurements with calibration procedures and the knowledge of secondary radical + atom reactions establish the reaction route
The reaction route
was found to be negligible (ratio of efficiencies (I)/(II) > 10). ‐ The rate constants for the reactions H + CH3OH, H + CD3OH, and H + CD3OD were measured in the temperature range 500‐680 K, leading to

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
