O objetivo do estudo foi avaliar a segurança alimentar de famílias de um assentamento rural, segundo a percepção das mulheres devido aos papéis de gêneros estabelecidos socialmente, que relacionam a elas o dever de cuidar da família. Trata-se de pesquisa com abordagem qualiquantitativa que utilizou a Escala Brasileira de Insegurança Alimentar (EBIA) e entrevista com quatro questões norteadoras. A EBIA foi respondida por 22 mulheres e os dados foram tratados por estatística descritiva. As entrevistas foram realizadas com 10 mulheres e os dados analisados por meio de triangulação de métodos. Verificou-se que 78,6% das famílias encontravam-se em Insegurança Alimentar e as narrativas dessas mulheres demostraram o medo de não ter alimento para seus filhos e dificuldades de viver da terra, apesar da melhoria da condição de vida após serem assentadas. Tal situação indica necessidade de articulação das políticas públicas que garantam Segurança Alimentar Nutricional dessas famílias.
