EVALUATION OF AN INTERVENTION PROGRAM TO PROMOTE SEXUAL HEALTH AMONG MEXICAN ADOLESCENTS IN CONFLICT WITH THE LAW AbstractThe purpose of this research was to evaluate the effectiveness of an intervention program to promote sexual health of adolescents in conflict with the law. The study was carried out with 118 adolescents belonging to a diagnosis community. A quasi-experimental design was used with an intervention group and one control group, consisting of three phases: preevaluation, intervention and post-evaluation. The intervention, which consisted of five sessions of two hours each one, comprised the elements that respond to the ecological model in its three levels: micro-system (knowledge, believes, attitudes, intentions and self-efficacy to use condoms, self-esteem, communication with partner, negotiating styles, etc.); meso-system (support, supervision and communication with parent, etc.) and macro-system (gender stereotypes). An analysis of repeated measures was performed. Results showed changes between control and experimental groups, in favor of the latter in all the variables of the model, except for partner communication and self-esteem. The findings are discussed in terms of the importance of designing programs based on the ecological model aimed at people who are deprived of freedom.
Some models start from the premise that changes in variables of cognitive type generate changes in behavior; However, empirical evidence shows that people may believe that carrying out certain behaviors are detrimental to their health, but they do nothing to change those habits. An explanation of why they do not generate changes from the intervention in cognitive variables, is because they leave aside the context in which they are, such as: family, school, among others; In this way consider that an individual is immersed in different environments will give a different view to explain why a person gets sick or not. An approach that allows to understand the health-disease process from this perspective is the Ecological Model, so the objective of the present work is to exemplify the use of this model through a theoretical revision in the field of sexual health.Ecological model applied to the field of sexual health 120 http://dx.
ABSTRACTThe purpose of the research was to identify psychosocial, behavioral and cultural factors associated with consistent condom use in a sample of adolescents in conflict with the law. 320 men (M = 16.33 years) were assessed and were given a booklet evaluating pattern of sexual behavior, knowledge Virus (HIV) and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), attitudes and intention to use condom, subjective norm, risk behavior of friends, partner communication, negotiation styles and gender stereotypes. The results showed that the variables for classifying the group consisting of non-consistent condom use were at first and last sex, having sex and drinking, variables related to the pattern of sexual behavior, psychosocial variables on only attitudes toward condom use, knowledge of STIs and the risk characteristics of the friends to discriminate between the groups, only the behavioral variables discriminated trading style collaboration-equity, and any cultural variable did. The results are discussed in terms of the importance of generating sexual health programs in this population.
