15 children with variable intractable seizure disorders who were on multiple anti-convulsant medications were treated with pulse monthly doses of parentral dexamethsone varying from 4 – 7 months. EEG and clinical response were assessed periodically as well at the end of the study. 53% of the patients showed clinical response and EEG response. Hypertension was noted in 6, hypokalemia in 3 and hyperglycaemia in 1 patient. The ultimate compliance from the parents for this treatment was seen among 12 patients because of its proven efficacy and parents of seven patients insisted to continue the treatment for long duration.

Guillain-Barr? syndrome (GBS) manifests clinically as an acute onset of generalized symmetrical and ascending weakness of the limb muscles with areflexia. Several variant forms of the disease with unusual distribution of muscles involvement have been described. Pharyngeal-brachial-cervical form of the disease is one of rare variants of GBS and only a few of cases have been reported in children. Here we report a 13-month-old boy, who developed acute weakness of pharyngeal, bulbar, cervical and upper limb weakness and the initial diagnostic work up were done to rule out acute brain stem stroke. We concluded that, while taking all other etiologies into consideration, pharyngeal-cervical-brachial variant of GBS should be considered in patient's symptoms with acute bulbar and upper extremity weakness in order to institute appropriate early management.
A seven-year-old girl presented with inability to open her eyelids after instilling natural tear eye drops. Mother felt that the child was deliberately not opening the eyes. Electromyography (EMG) showed Needle EMG (electromyography) revealed short runs of myotonic discharges in the form repetitive muscle fibre after-discharges on tapping the muscle belly (dive-bomber phenomenon) of left biceps brachie, brachioradialis and rectus femoris suggestive of myotonia. She was diagnosed to have isolated eyelid myotonia.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
