) and glyphosate + saflufenacil (720 + 28 g ha -1 PALAVRAS-CHAVE) applied post-emergence on three species of weeds (Richardia brasiliensis, Sida rhombifolia and Ipomoea grandifolia), and a control without herbicide. The herbicides were sprayed when the castor bean plants showed 50 to 70 cm of height. Visual assessments of the degree of control were performed at 3, 7, 14, 21 and 28 days after treatment application. The study was installed in a randomized complete block design with three replications. The herbicide saflufenacil was effective in the control of all the weeds studied, and the herbicides carfentrazone-ethyl and flumioxazin presented only satisfactory control of weeds. The mixture tested was effective in the control of all weeds.KEY WORDS: Carfentrazone-ethyl, Ricinus communis, flumioxazin, saflufenacil.
The development of controlled delivery system formulations has received increasing interest in the agriculture area. Tebuthiuron (TBH) is the most commonly used herbicide for weed control in sugar cane and cotton crops. The TBH and some of its metabolites are detected in surface water by leaching process, evidencing contamination and the need for an efficient process to decrease pesticide residues. The development of a controlled system release appears as a good solution. The present investigation aimed to study the development and evaluation of alginate microparticles as a delivery system for the TBH. The calcium alginate microparticles were prepared from the crosslinking of sodium alginate by Ca ++ containing varied amounts of TBH supplied in CaCl 2 aqueous solution. The particle size and morphological analysis of microparticles were determined by optical microscopy (OM) and by field emission gun scanning electron microscopy (FEG-SEM). The encapsulation efficiency and release of TBH studies was accessed by UV-vis spectroscopy. The results show that the polymeric microparticles containing TBH can be obtained successfully through a simple method and is suitable as a controlled release carrier system for herbicides and can be effective for controlling weeds.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of the precocity of primary root emission test, for the substrates paper roll, on paper and between papers, on vigor of pearl millet seeds. Ten seed lots evaluated in four replication of 100 pearl millet seeds cultivar ADR 500 were sown in three different humidified substrates: between papers, paper roll and on paper. These were incubated at a temperature of 20-30°C. Fifteen hours after the germination test was established, the emission of seed primary roots started to be observed every 2 hours up to 25 hours and then after 48 hours. For the comparison among lots, seeds were also evaluated by moisture content, weight of 1000 seeds, germination and vigor (first count, electrical conductivity, accelerated aging and seedling emergence). The statistical design was completely randomized, and the means comparisons were accomplished by the Tukey test at 0.05 level of probability. It was concluded that the precocity of primary root emission test on paper is promising for vigor evaluation of pearl millet seeds.
Palavras-chave: dormência, sementes, plantas daninhas.ABSTRACT -An experiment was installed in Ribeirao Preto-SP to test the use of water as a method of overcoming dormancy of Ipomoea hederifolia and I. quamoclit seeds. Before carrying out the treatments, the seeds of the two species were submitted to tetrazolium test to assess their viability. The treatments consisted in submerging the seeds of both species in hot water at boiling point (98 °C) and in water at ambient temperature (26 °C), during different periods of exposure (null; 0,5; 1; 5; 10; 15; 20 and 24 hours). Seedling emergence was determined daily, for 21 days, for posterior calculation of emergence speed rate and emergence speed. The Ipomoea species presented a differentiated behavior. The I. hederifolia seeds subjected to the hot water treatment showed a higher percentage of seedling emergence than the control, after 0.5 hours of soaking, and the cold water treatments were not efficient in overcoming dormancy of this species. For I. quamoclit seeds, the treatments applied had no dormancy overcome effect, damaging seed quality.
