RESUMOO estudo destaca a importância da percepção do cliente no processo de avaliação da assistência de enfermagem. Através da pesquisa bibliográfica no período compreendido entre 1990 e 2004. Realizou-se uma revisão sobre satisfação do cliente, onde foram identificados conceitos e publicações que abordassem a percepção do cliente como fator importante na avaliação da assistência de enfermagem. Assim, concluindo que o cliente tem papel importante na obtenção do verdadeiro resultado da assistência oferecida, pois se caracteriza como fonte de opiniões e sugestões auxiliando no processo de avaliação. INTRODUÇÃOA busca pela qualidade nos serviços de saúde tornou-se um fenômeno mundial, conseqüente do aumento da conscientização de que a qualidade é indispensável para a sobrevivência dos serviços de saúde. Além disso, constitui uma responsabilidade ética e social (1) . O aumento absoluto e relativo da população adulta e idosa ocasionou um grande impacto no setor saúde. Crescendo a importância e a necessidade da quantificação dos recursos de saúde que a população tem que arcar para satisfazer suas necessidades específicas (2) . No atual mercado cada vez mais competitivo exigindo que as empresas ofereçam produtos e serviços com padrões cada vez melhores, a qualidade passou a ser requisito indispensável no processo de produção e na oferta dos serviços. Em busca da valorização, o mercado tem procurado satisfazer seus clientes. Neste sentido, faz-se a seguir uma abordagem a respeito do termo qualidade, para assim compreender a relevância do mesmo no processo de avaliação da assistência ao paciente.
