ABSTRACT-In Brazil, pear production presents the same incipient situation over the last 15 years, due mostly to low production technology. In this context, this study aimed to evaluate the development, growth and production of the pear tree cultivars Cascatense, Tenra and Hosui grafted on 'CPP' quince rootstock, using 'FT' pear as interstem. This trial was carried out in Guarapuava, State of Paraná, Southern region of Brazil, by five productive cycles. The pear trees were planted in September of 2004, spaced at 1.0 x 4.0 m (2,500 trees ha -1 ), trained to the modified central leader, on a Four-wire trellis, with drip irrigation and cultivated under organic production system. The following variables were evaluated: sprouting, anthesis, yield, fruit weight, soluble solids content, titratable acidity, pulp firmness, canopy area per plant and per hectare and trunk diameter. The pear tree cv. Tenra was outstanding most of the years for fruit yield, and, consequently, showed the highest accumulated yield over the period (51.6 t ha -1 ), followed by the cultivars Cascatense (39.7 t ha -1 ) and Hosui (18.7 t ha -1 ). All pear cultivars presented suitable physical-chemical characteristics for commercial purposes, with minimal average soluble solids content of 11% at harvest. The maximum canopy area per hectare was attained for cv. Cascatense (3063.2 m 2 ), that was considered insufficient for a high yield. These results suggest the needs for studies with higher density planting and other training systems, searching optimize canopy volume. One of the most limiting factors in the organic pear orchard was the incidence of pear dieback caused by Botriosphaeria dothidea, severe more often in pear trees cv. Hosui. A pereira cv.
In this study we aimed to evaluate the effect of using the mixture of plant growth regulators auxin, gibberellin and cytokinin in the physiological behavior and productive components of cabbage plants hybrid Fuyutoyo®. The experimental design was completely randomized, with four replications, evaluating five doses of the mixture of plant growth regulators, in the form of the commercial product Stimulate® (0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 mL p.c./100 L H2O). The spray applications of plant growth regulators started when the plants presented 7-8 expanded leaves, carried out fortnightly, totaling five applications along the cycle. The authors evaluated gas exchange measures; fresh mass, diameter and firmness of “heads”; and number of leaves. The study concluded that applications of 200 mL of the mixture of plant growth regulators p.c/100 L H2O promoted higher photosynthetic yield (21.40 µmol CO2/m2/s), and fresh mass (3.46 kg), vertical and horizontal diameter (13.23 and 16.61 cm), number of leaves (30.95) and firmness of the “head” (54.48 N). The authors recommend, in order to choose the best dose, to analyze to which market segment the product will be directed.
Bordô using wood ashes and cattle manure in organic system ABSTRACT This assay aimed to evaluate the effects of the superficial application of different doses of wood ashes and cattle manure, on vegetative growth and production of grapevines cv. Bordô. The doses used were 0, 750, 1,500 and 2,250 g plant -1 of wood ashes and 0, 5 and 10 kg plant -1 of cattle manure, in factorial scheme 4 x 3 (doses of ash x manure doses). During two years, the following variables were evaluated: diameter of the trunk and canes, leaf area index, yield, mean weight of cluster, number of clusters and macro and micronutrients contents in leaf. There were positive effects of the treatments for all variables, without, however, changing the nutritional status in terms of contents of elements in leaves. In general, for the majority of the variables, the treatment with 5 kg plant -1 of cattle manure added to 1,500 kg plant -1 of wood ashes, allowed to achieve the best results, with increments in leaf area index (38-71%) and yield (106-167%). The two sources can be used to supply nutritional demands of grapevines in production, needing, nevertheless, a supplementation with other sources.
ISABEL USING WOOD ASH AND CATTLE MANUREABSTRACT-The search for a more sustainable viticulture requires the study of alternative sources that causes less environmental impact. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of different doses of wood ashes and cattle manure on the vegetative growth of grapevines cv. Isabella. The following doses were used: 0, 750, 1500, 2250 g plant -1 of wood ashes and 0, 5 and 10 kg plant -1 of cattle manure, in a factorial scheme 4x3, with 12 treatments, five replications and two plant per plot. In the first two vegetative cycles, it was evaluated the diameter of canes and trunk and; on the second cycle, it was evaluated the leaf area index and carried out the chemical analysis of nutrients leaf content. It was verified positive effects of treatments for all variables studied, with more evidence for the leaf area index evaluations. In general, for the most variables, the dose of 5 kg plant -1 of cattle manure attained the best results, added to 750 or 1500 g plant -1 of wood ashes, or the exclusive use of 10 kg plant -1 of cattle manure. Nevertheless, this last treatment increased excessively the N content, what could be harmful to plants. It was concluded that the two sources could be used to supply the nutritional exigencies of young vines, needing, depending on soil conditions, a supplement with potassium and calcium.
