Carcinoma arising in the apocrine sweat glands is rare and there are few reports describing the cytological features of this neoplasm. We describe the cytological features of a histologically confirmed apocrine carcinoma occurring in a 55-year-old man who presented with an ulcerated mass in the right axilla. Fine-needle aspiration cytology revealed features of a signet ring adenocarcinoma. The significance of this infrequently encountered neoplasm lies in its potential for diagnostic confusion with more common lesions containing signet ring cells. In an axillary mass lesion, cytological features along with clinical correlation are essential to distinguish primary apocrine carcinoma from mammary neoplasms with signet ring cells and other metastatic adenocarcinomas.
The non-linear transient analysis of water-lubricated journal bearings having four-axial and six-axial grooves is studied theoretically. The time-dependent form of the generalized Reynolds equation has been written as the governing equation in non-dimensional form. The Reynolds equation is solved by a finite-difference technique with a successive over-relaxation scheme, satisfying the Jakobsson-Floberg-Olsson boundary conditions. A non-linear timetransient analysis is carried out and the stability of journal is studied. The equations of motion are solved by the fourth-order Runge-Kutta method to obtain the eccentricity ratio, attitude angle, and their derivatives for the next time step. This study is performed for unidirectional constant load, unidirectional periodic load, and variable rotating load. The journal locus is plotted from the values of eccentricity ratio and attitude angle, and it helps in predicting the status of the system.
A 65-yr-old woman presented in May 1998 with a left parotid mass of 2 yr duration. The cytology and histopathology of the parotid lesion showed features of a columnar cell carcinoma. In November, 1967, she was diagnosed to have a classic papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). Ultrasound examination revealed a persistent thyroid nodule, the aspiration cytology of which confirmed columnar cell variant of papillary thyroid carcinoma (CCV-PTC). CCV-PTC is a recently described rare tumor of the thyroid that has been associated with an aggressive clinical course. Our case was peculiar in that the patient presented with an isolated metastasis in the parotid gland. Second, after an indolent course following the initial diagnosis of usual PTC 31 yr ago, she had now developed a more aggressive variant of the tumor.
A handful of cases of cribriform adenocarcinoma of the tongue have been reported in the literature, but in none of these cases was the tumor pedunculat ed. By the time these patients sought treatment, most ofthe tumors had metastasized to the cervical lymph nodes. We report the case of a 65-year-old woman who had a large, peduncula ted, cribriform adenocarcinoma that had arisenfrom the base of the tongue. This case was also unusual because the tumor had not metastasized. The patien t was treated with surgery and radiotherapy. To the best ofour knowledge, cribriform pedunculated adenoca rcinoma of the base of the tongue has not been previously reported.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
