Every student who attends lectures on campus is expected to have achievements as an academic member. This also applies to student-athletes excelling in sports and balancing it with academic achievement. Achievement is related to athletes' physical abilities and skills in performing techniques. The high level of physical activity that is carried out requires athletes' involvement in taking risks both during training and competitions. This study aims to determine the profile of risk-taking behavior in Surabaya State University students. A total of 230 student-athletes became the subject of the study, with an age range of 19-24 years, with 35 people in the categories of accuracy sports, 57 people in Pencak silat, 96 people in games, and 42 people in the competition. The instrument used is risk-taking behavior—data analysis techniques using descriptive statistics. The data analysis tool used the Jeffreys' Amazing Statistics Program (JASP) application version 0.14.1.0. The data analysis results showed that most subjects' risk-taking behavior was at a good level of 157 people or 86.3 percent. The dominant risk-taking behavior is at a high level of 73 people or 31.73 percent at a moderate level. The implications of this research are the data for campuses to promote sports activities so that students have good risk-taking behavior. Through good decision-making behavior, it is hoped that it will encourage the achievement of student-athlete's academic and sports achievements.
This research purpose was to analyze the relationship between anxiety and mental toughness among athlete students. A quantitative method with correlation design was used in this research. Subjects of this research were one hundred and twenty-eight athlete students. All participant were athlete students at State Senior High School of Sport or namely SMANOR in Sidoarjo, East Java, Indonesia. There were seventy eight male and fifty female. The average age of participants was sixteen and half years old. Data were collected using two instruments: An adapted Sport Anxiety Scale with unfavorable score to measure an anxiety, A mental toughness scales to measure mental toughness. The research result indicates that there was a significant relationship between anxiety and mental toughness with coefficient correlation zero point seventy-five. These results can be interpreted that the higher the level of anxiety, the lower the level of mental toughness is. This is because of anxiety make athlete students have bad feeling and negative emotion that influence their mental toughness.
This study aims to know the correlation between students' psychological capital on track and field performance. The subjects of this study were 18 athletes who still studied in Senior High School in East Java. The adapted Psychological Capital Questionnaire for sport was constructed by Luthans, et al. (2007). The product moment method is utilized for statistic analyzing. The result of data analysis was 0.473, meaning that the psychological capital variable influences the individual performance on track and field. The variable influenced 47.3% of the athlete's performance. Therefore, it can be concluded that track and field athletes must join the psychological coaching in order to develop their performance.
The main aim of research is to develop model and instrument psychological competencies scale (PCS) of 100 Meter Student Athletes. This research use a mixed methods approach. 1st Study, used a qualitative approach, identifying the constructs and dimensions of elite 100 meter runner student athletes. Using literature review and interview of 2 elite athletes and 2 coaches. The results of the first study is psychological competencies model consists of goal setting, goal setting, motivation, concentration, emotion regulation, focus, self talk, self confidence, and persistence. Another result is 10 items of multidimentional measure of PCS. Each items in the scale were responded on five point level. Leveling describes psychological abilities based on behavior. 2nd Study, using a quantitative approach, instrument validation and reliability testing. We recruited 50, age 18-22 years from 100 meters runner student athletes voluntarily participated in this study. We assessed construct validity by examining how well the measures discriminated groups expected to differ based on their competencies, using Corrected Item-Total Correlation with a minimum limit of 0.300 to be declared a valid item. We assessed internal consistency of PCS using the Cronbach Alpha coefficient. The result of Corrected Item-Total Correlation obtained results All items are valid because they have a Corrected Item-Total Correlation value greater than the minimum limit of 0.300. The internal consistency of the (Cronbach’s alpha coefficient) was 0.841. It can be concluded that PCS is valid and reliable for measuring for 100 meter runner student athlete.
