Existem no mercado odontológico vários tipos de aparelhos fotopolimerizadores, como os aparelhos de luz halógena e os aparelhos à base de LEDs compostos por diodos emissores de luz. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a eficiência desses dois sistemas de fotopolimerização na microdureza superficial de resinas compostas. Foram confeccionados corpos-de-prova com a resina composta Tetric Ceram (Ivoclar-Vivadent), cor A2, utilizando-se matrizes metálicas com diâmetro interno de 5 mm e 2 mm de espessura. Os aparelhos utilizados foram: Elipar® FreeLigth (3M-ESPE) à base de LEDs e Curing Ligth (3M-ESPE) com luz halógena. Para a polimerização dos corpos-de-prova foi empregado o tempo de exposição de 40 segundos. Foram confeccionados cinco corpos-de-prova para cada grupo experimental, os quais ficaram armazenados por 24 horas em recipientes escuros e secos, em temperatura ambiente. Para o teste de microdureza Vickers foram realizadas quatro impressões nas superfícies de topo e de base, utilizando-se carga de 50 gf por 30 segundos. O teste t de Student foi aplicado para analisar os resultados, não sendo encontrada diferença estatisticamente significante na superfície de topo (p>0,05). Pôde-se concluir que o aparelho à base de LEDs proporcionou menores valores de microdureza do que o aparelho de luz halógena na superfície de base dos corpos-de-prova.
