ObjectivesTo calculate and compare the nursing staff size associated with self-care
promotion at a pediatric semi-intensive care unit.MethodsThis was a prospective study in which 31 children and their caregivers
participated. The nursing workload associated with each participant was
evaluated at two different times (first and second hospital stays) using the
Nursing Activities Score instrument. The first hospital stay corresponded to
self-care promotion. Staff size was calculated according to the nursing
hours recommended by the Nursing Activities Score instrument and by
Conselho Federal de Enfermagem (COFEN) resolution no.
527/16, in the two hospital stays, and the results were compared.ResultsThe nursing workload in the first hospital stay (14.6 hours) was higher than
the nursing workload in the second stay (9.9 hours) (p < 0.001). The
Nursing Activities Score revealed that according to the nursing hours, the
nursing staff size corresponded to 26 and 18 professionals in the first and
second hospital stays, respectively, and to 15 professionals according to
COFEN resolution no. 527/16.ConclusionThe number of personnel responsible for promoting self-care in pediatric
semi-intensive care units, according to the nursing hours suggested by the
Nursing Activities Score, was higher than that recommended by the existing
legislation. This demonstrates the necessity of reconsidering staff size for
this healthcare profile.
Objective:to correlate spirituality and religiosity with quality of life of adolescents
with and without cleft lip and palate. Methods:cross-sectional and correlational study involving two groups: case group (n =
40) and comparison group (n = 40). The Duke University Religion Index
(DUREL) and the World Health Organization Quality of Life Bref were used for
data collection. The Mann-Whitney, Chi-Square, Student’s t-test and
Pearson’s correlation tests were used in the statistical analyses, with a
significance level of 5% (p ≤ 0.05). Results:organizational religiosity and overall quality of life were significantly
higher in the case group (p = 0.031 and p = 0.012, respectively). As for
quality of life, the Environment Domain was significantly higher in the case
group (p < 0.001). In the correlation between religiosity and
spirituality, non-organizational religiosity had a strong correlation (r =
0.62) with organizational religiosity (p < 0.001). In the correlation of
religiosity and spirituality with quality of life, only a moderate
correlation between spirituality and overall quality of life was identified
(r = -0.35, p = 0.026). Conclusion:there was no relationship of religiosity and spirituality with quality of
life among adolescents with cleft lip and palate for most aspects
evaluated.
Objective: To identify the nursing team absenteeism rate, calculate the Technical Safety Index and compare them to the percentage established by the Federal Nursing Council. Method: A descriptive, analytical, and retrospective study which included nursing professionals working in a public and tertiary hospital. The Human Resources Department database of the Institution was used for data collection. Absenteeism was considered as any unplanned absence. Results: Ninety-nine (99) professionals participated, of which 21 were nurses and 78 were nursing technicians. Weekly days off prevailed among the expected absences, with 17% for both categories. Maternity leave prevailed among nurses and medical leave among nursing technicians regarding absenteeism, with averages of 12% and 9%, respectively. The Technical Safety Index was 42% for nurses and 38% for nursing technicians. Conclusion: The nursing teams absenteeism rate was 21.5%, while the Technical Safety Index was 40%, thus constituting higher values than those established by the Federal Nursing Council.
