Durante muito tempo, as atividades laboratoriais dos cursos de graduação em Odontologia eram realizadas em dentes obtidos de várias formas, entre elas doações feitas por profissionais da área e captações em cemitérios por intermédio de coveiros. Após a inclusão do dente no grupo de órgãos, as questões legais tornaram os bancos de dentes humanos (BDH) essenciais nas universidades. Objetivo: Após realizar um questionário com acadêmicos sobre o tema, observou-se a necessidade de promover a implantação do BDH no Centro Universitário de União da Vitória (Uniuv). Material e métodos: Utilizou-se uma revisão da literatura sobre as substâncias usadas para o armazenamento dos dentes, bem como dos protocolos instalados em outras instituições que já possuíam bancos de dentes. Resultados e conclusão: Encontra[1]se a elaboração do procedimento operacional padrão para o BDH UNIUV, utilizando detergente multienzimático para limpeza prévia dos dentes, processo de autoclavagem para esterilização, sendo os dentes posteriormente depositados em frascos contendo água destilada e postos sob refrigeração para armazenamento.
