I hope you were interested in the new award we launched in the last issue and look forward to receiving submissions that meet the criteria in the months ahead. I was very interested to read in Daily Research News Online (drno article 6298) about research conducted by Lightspeed Research as part of their 'Research on Research' programme. The research shows the pattern of responses to invitations to take part in research projects online and how they vary over the week and by age group. It also shows how events can skew response, such as a major televised football match. Some of this may sound obvious but any factor that can lead to enhanced response rates is surely an important consideration in a world where response rates, across all fieldwork methods, is still tending to fall. One of the papers in this issue also offers some practical advice on countering potential non-response in telephone research. These are the 'real-world' issues faced by market researchers often missing from market research text books.
