Resumo A pandemia de Coronavírus despertou preocupação da comunidade acadêmica com a qualidade do ar interior. A principal via de propagação da doença se dá por aerossóis, com vírus presentes em partículas que permanecem em suspensão no ar por longos períodos. Este trabalho busca compreender o papel da ventilação natural na probabilidade de contágio da doença em salas de aula. Taxas de ventilação foram calculadas por método algébrico para salas de aula em duas situações: ventilação cruzada e unilateral. Foi proposta redução da ocupação máxima das salas de aula, tanto considerando distância mínima de 2 metros entre ocupantes, quanto mantendo taxa mínima de ventilação de 27 m³/h por pessoa.A probabilidade de contágio foi calculada para as capacidades originais e reduzidas de cada sala, seguindo metodologia proposta na literatura. Cada recinto também foi classificado de acordo com seu número de trocas de ar por hora. A ventilação unilateral se mostrou insuficiente para manter taxas adequadas de ventilação em todos os casos. Para 11 das 31 salas avaliadas o distanciamento de 2 metros entre ocupantes é insuficiente para manter as taxas de ventilação adequadas.
A ventilação natural em salas de aula se configura como um importante mecanismo de diluição e remoção dos aerossóis que contêm o vírus SARS-CoV-2, transportados pelo ar. O presente estudo, de caráter extensionista, teve como principal objetivo dar suporte aos gestores das escolas municipais da cidade de Londrina-PR quanto às questões ligadas à ventilação natural das salas de aula no período vigente da pandemia, visando segurança sanitária aos alunos, professores e funcionários. Neste contexto, duas ações, integradas à Secretaria Municipal da Educação da cidade, foram realizadas: a criação de um vídeo instrucional de apoio ao protocolo de biossegurança da prefeitura, destacando a importância da ventilação natural dentro das salas de aula; e estudos técnicos de cálculo da renovação de ar em salas de aula, com a determinação do número máximo de alunos. Para o desenvolvimento das ações, a estratégia foi o envolvimento das atividades de ensino, pesquisa e extensão permitindo a atuação do grupo de alunos de engenharia civil e arquitetura em estudos técnicos realizados nas escolas municipais Edmundo Odebrecht e Tarumã. As análises finais foram norteadas por parâmetros técnicos definidos pela Anvisa e por estudos internacionais que classificam a qualidade do ar de acordo com a quantidade de trocas de ar por hora nas salas de aula. Ao final sugere-se a limitação diferenciada da ocupação máxima de alunos nas salas, de acordo com as condições de ventilação de cada uma, para reduzir as chances de contaminação por COVID-19.
