The characteristics of rainfall can provide important information for management and land use may also minimize the water erosion problems. This study was carried out to evaluate soil and water loss in erosion plots with different coverage, and the interference of natural rainfall characteristics on these processes. The experiment was carried out during the rainy season in the years of 2009 and 2010, on three erosion plots, each of 20 m 2 , and under different land use conditions: native 'caatinga', thinned 'caatinga' and natural herbaceous cover. The rainfall was classified into three different rainfall patterns, characterized as early, intermediate and late. The predominant rainfall pattern for the two years under study was early rainfall with 47.6%, followed by intermediate and late with 30.5% and 22%, respectively. The smallest soil losses for the entire studied period were recorded for the native 'caatinga' plot, demonstrating the protective effect of vegetation on sediment production. Despite the early rainfall pattern being prevalent in the period of study, this was not the main factor responsible for water and soil loss. This exploitation is generally unsustainable, resulting in a scarcity of land and water resources, and having serious negative effects on this region. The objective of this research was to analyse the influence of anthropic action on the hydro-sedimentological responses of an experimental watershed with transitory drainage, located in the semiarid region of Ceará, during the years under study of 2009 and 2010: the catchment area of the observed watershed being 2.8 ha. In 2009, the first year of the study, the native caatinga vegetation of the area was maintained unaltered; the following year a type of land use common to the region was applied, consisting of the removal of all vegetation followed by burning the land and cultivation of the grass Andropogon gayanus Kunt for the production of pasture. The rainy season of 2009 presented a total rainfall of 1,063 mm, 23.1% of the total precipitation being converted to surface runoff and resulting in a sediment yield of 730 kg ha -1 . In 2010, due to the lower volume precipitated (809 mm), total runoff corresponded to 13.9%, but the sediment yield was maximized, with a total of 2,832 kg...

P.SIMILARITY OF SOILS WITH REGARD TO SALINITY IN THE PERENNIAL VALLEY OF TRUSSU RIVER, CEARÁ 2 ABSTRACT The goal was to evaluate the impacts of irrigation with addition of salts on soils of two irrigated areas in the perennial stretch of Trussu River, Iguatu, Ceará, located in the Brazilian semiarid, by applying the multivariate statistical technique, and clustering analysis, as a tool to identify the similarity of the areas in time and space. Samples were collected in three areas: one with forest regeneration, cultivated with irrigated pasture and another with irrigated guava. Soil samples were collected every two months from May/2013 to April/2014 in 0-30 cm; 30-60 cm; 60-90 cm layers. The following attributes were considered: Electrical Conductivity of the saturation extract (EC), pH, PES (percentage of exchangeable sodium), SAR (sodium adsorption ratio) and soluble ions Ca2+, Mg2+, Na+, K+, Cl-. Group 1 was formed by soils presenting the lowest salts concentration average, composed for all samples taken in the regeneration forest soils, seven originating from areas with pasture and six from areas with guava, regardless of the sampled layer or collection time. Group 2 expresses a complete dissimilarity of information on the regeneration forest, since no information on this area is present in this group. The largest salt concentrations in Group 2 indicates that there was an accumulation of ions in the soil in the irrigated areas, but not at a level that could compromise plant growth and jeopardize both soils as salinity. The separation of these soils into groups containing similar soil in salinity can contribute to management strategies to be adopted for each soil group formed. Keywords: salts in the soil, irrigation, multivariate statistics.
