O medo da morte é, naturalmente, o medo fundamental, isto é, o medo do qual praticamente todos os outros medos são derivados. O medo de envelhecer pode ser visto como o medo da aproximação da morte ou como o medo da quantidade de pequenas mortes preliminares. O medo do estrangeiro pode ser visto como o medo da morte da identidade cultural, constitutiva da identidade pessoal. O medo da guerra e do conflito pode ser visto como o medo vinculado à morte da identidade nacional, à morte dos próximos e à morte individual. O medo das catástrofes ambientais também é algo que pode ser visto como um medo sintético em relação à morte individual, à morte coletiva da humanidade, como também à morte de uma identidade ampliada de estar na natureza. Pretendo aqui discutir de que modo o medo da morte baseia-se nas ameaças sofridas à nossa própria identidade face à experiência do tempo.
O objetivo deste texto é ampliar o escopo da reflexão sobre as condições transcendentais de validação da objetividade científica de modo a incluir a dimensão reguladora da razão do sensus communis, tomando como base algumas distinções importantes estabelecidas por Kant na Crítica da Faculdade de Julgar, especialmente na “Crítica da Faculdade do Juízo Estético”, em textos da Lógica, bem como em outros escritos de Kant pós 1781. O meu ponto de vista é que essa perspectiva ampliada sobre a natureza da razão, que enfatiza o seu carácter comunicativo e comunitário, pode ajudar-nos a compreender problemas filosoficamente relevantes relativos à objetividade abstrata da ciência, especialmente da microfísica, que lida com entidades inobserváveis, não acessíveis à experiência direta.
