Do podsadzenia szczeliny użyto podsadzki ceramicznej o rozmiarze ziaren 0,850÷0,425 mm. Studies of the susceptibility of the tight gas rock to the phenomenon of embedment, limiting the effectiveness of hydraulic fracturing This paper presents, a study on the impact of proppant embedment into the fracture walls, on the effectiveness of hydraulic fracturing in tight formations. The methodology for the evaluation of the susceptibility of reservoir rock to the embedment phenomenon (limiting the effective propping of fractures) was developed and verified in laboratory tests. The studies were performed for tight gas sandstone representing unconventional Polish deposits, for dry and fracfluid-wet cores, at 12 000 psi compressive stress, at room temperature and 1 lb/ft 2 surface conc...
This paper concerns the effect of proppant embedment related to hydraulic fracturing treatment. This phenomenon occurs if the strength of a dry reservoir rock is lower than that of proppant grains. The aim of this research was the laboratory determination of the loss of width of the proppant pack built of light ceramic grains. A laboratory simulation of the embedment phenomenon was carried out for a shale rock on a hydraulic press in a heated embedment chamber specially prepared for this purpose. Tests were conducted at high temperature and axial compressive stress conditions. The surfaces of cylindrical core plugs (fracture faces) were imaged under an optical microscope equipped with 3D software. The fracture faces were examined and compared before and after the embedment phenomenon. Analysis of the obtained images of the fracture face was done, based on a research method of the embedment phenomenon developed at the Oil and Gas Institute—National Research Institute. On the basis of the laboratory tests, the parameters characterizing the embedment phenomenon were defined and discussed. In addition, the percentage reduction in the width of the proppant pack was determined.
After laboratory research the pilot treatment has been done. After obtaining positive results from this treatment, BMB oil field operator begun to use emulsified acid for small scale acidizing treatment on production wells. Six acidizing treatments have been performed using emulsified acid. Oil and gas production increase was achieved after each treatment. Significant oil and gas production increase and decrease of near wellbore pressure drop was noticed during the production process. After positive results of emulsified acid treatment have been achieved on BMB oil field, this technology was successfully introduced in wells on another oil field located on the same carbonate formation Introduction At the end of the 20'th century one of the biggest oil and gas field was discovered on the West - North part of Poland. This reservoir called BMB is located in carbonate formation at average depth about 3000 m. Commercial oil production from this field started in March 2000. Testing and commercial production confirms existence of near wellbore damage. Significant production restriction and pressure drop in near wellbore area is caused by skin effect in production wells. During the testing stage of the wells, solution of hydrochloric and acetic acid was used for cleaning of the perforations and removing near wellbore damage. High reservoir temperature and rather small volumes of acid were the main reasons for poor results of this treatment. After that, a company operating on this field asked our Stimulation Laboratory for selecting the best fluid for acidizing and formation damage removing. Laboratory research confirmed poor results obtained with use of hydrochloric and acetic acid solutions for this type of formation and reservoir conditions. Main reason for unsuccessful treatments was the high reaction rate between hydrochloric and acetic acid solution and reservoir rock caused by high reservoir temperature (120oC). After laboratory tests and many core flow experiments have been made, an optimal fluid composition was designed. The best solution seems to be an emulsified acid. Water phase of this fluid was 15% of hydrochloric acid solution with corrosion inhibitor. The organic phase was an oil from BMB field with addition of emulsifier. Both fluids were emulsified at volume ratio 1:1.
Hydraulic fracturing (HF) is a well-known stimulation method used to increase production from conventional and unconventional hydrocarbon reservoirs. In recent years, HF has been widely used in Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS). HF in EGS is used to create a geothermal collector in impermeable or poor-permeable hot rocks (HDR) at a depth formation. Artificially created fracture network in the collector allows for force the flow of technological fluid in a loop between at least two wells (injector and producer). Fluid heats up in the collector, then is pumped to the surface. Thermal energy is used to drive turbines generating electricity. This paper is a compilation of selected data from 10 major world’s EGS projects and provides an overview of the basic elements needed to design HF. Authors were focused on two types of data: geological, i.e., stratigraphy, lithology, target zone deposition depth and temperature; geophysical, i.e., the tectonic regime at the site, magnitudes of the principal stresses, elastic parameters of rocks and the seismic velocities. For each of the EGS areas, the scope of work related to HF processes was briefly presented. The most important HF parameters are cited, i.e., fracturing pressure, pumping rate and used fracking fluids and proppants. In a few cases, the dimensions of the modeled or created hydraulic fractures are also provided. Additionally, the current state of the conceptual work of EGS projects in Poland is also briefly presented.
The first objective of this experiment was to improve the stabilization of N2 based foam with nanoparticles as an alternative to typical fracturing fluid, which consists of a gelling agent (HPG—hydroxypropyl guar). The second objective of the project was to investigate the damage caused by nanoparticle–based nitrogen foamed fracturing fluids (F.F) on a reference sandstone, using permeability and porosity tests, optical microscope with a Profilometer, and a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The properties of F.F with two types of SiO2 nanoparticles (hydrophilic fumed silica Areosil 300 and silica sol U-2 obtained by the sol-gel method), such as rheology and core damage, were investigated. The discussion of this research results is based on the stability tests carried out with the use of rheology and the foam half-life, formation damage ratio, and observation of exposed samples using SEM and the Profilometer. The permeability and porosity damage ratios of the damaged core samples were found to decrease when nitrogen foamed fluids were used. These results were confirmed with the Profilometer and SEM images. The experimental data showed that the foam stability increased when silica (SiO2) nanoparticles were added. SiO2 nanoparticle-surfactant-stabilized foam for fracturing is superior to traditional water-based fracturing fluids and causes lower core permeability damage than a traditional F.F.
Selection of additives for energized fracturing fluidsHydraulic fracturing is now the most popular method of stimulating gas and oil reservoirs in non-conventional formations. Fracturing is necessary to enable the production of hydrocarbon from formations of very low permeability, i.e. tight gas, coal and gas-bearing shales deposits, that cannot be exploited without fracking [10]. When fracking fluids used are based on water, so-called permeability damage caused by, among others, swelling of clay minerals, or by other physical and chemical mechanisms taking place in a formation being fractured [5] is likely to occur. The role of fracking fluid is to generate and propagate fractures. Any applied fracking fluid, should also have appropriate properties to make forced proppant materials keep the form of a suspension, and then to make fluid leave proppant in a fracture generated in a reservoir. In the search for alternative methods of fracturing, we drew our attention to, the use of energized fluids as a promising method of fracturing water sensitive formations. The article presents laboratory tests that focused on the selection of appropriate fracturing fluids additives; including biocides, surfactants, polymers and foaming agents and their concentrations. The main aim was to develop effective methods for evaluation of time-dependent properties of the fracturing fluids, at reservoir conditions. Key words: energ...
Wspomniane działania i aktywność krajowych firm w poszukiwaniu węglowodorów w niekonwencjonalnych akumulacjach mogą doprowadzić do wypracowania efektywnej metody udostępniania tych formacji, a w konsekwencji do osiągnięcia sukcesu komercyjnego. Słowa kluczowe: złoża niekonwencjonalne, hydrauliczne szczelinowanie, gaz z łupków, metan z węgla.
