Zusammenfassung: Der Beitrag geht der Frage nach, warum sich die die Deutsche Gesellschaft für Soziologie gründenden Sozialwissenschaftler 1909 so schnell und diskussionslos auf die Werturteilsfreiheit als demonstrativen Programmpunkt einigen konnten. Die Antwort wird darin gesehen, daß das dort als Prinzip angesprochene Phänomen ihnen seit den 1890er Jahren vertraut und selbstverständlich war. Zum einen, aufgrund des während und nach der "Ära Stumm" auf sie ausgeübten politischen Druckes, zum anderen -tiefgreifender und folgenreicher -als Folge des einsetzenden Zweifels am Fortschritt, der die bislang bestehende Verflechtung von Positivismus und Sozialismus löst. Das Wertfreiheitsprinzip erklärt sich so als Resultat der generationsspezifischen gemeinsamen Erfahrung der Grün dungsmitglieder der DGS.Als die Deutsche Gesellschaft für Soziologie (DGS) 1909 gegründet wurde, legte sie besondere Bedeutung auf den sogenannten Aspekt Wertfrei heit. Folgerichtig wurde er im § 1 der Satzung verankert: "Sie [i. e. DGS; O. R.] gibt allen wis senschaftlichen Richtungen und Methoden der So ziologie gleichmäßig Raum und lehnt die Vertre tung irgendwelcher praktischen (ethischen, religiö sen, politischen, ästhetischen usw.)
