This research compared the impacts of Persian and English cultural background knowledge on Iranian EFL learners’ listening skill. To that purpose, the Oxford Quick Placement Test (OQPT) was given to 86 Iranian EFL students; 50 of them were chosen as research participants. The respondents were then divided into two equal experimental groups (EGs) at random (Persian culture and English culture). A listening pretest was then given to both groups. The individuals in both EGs were then given the treatment. The researchers taught one EG by using the English cultural materials, while they taught the other group through the Persian cultural materials. The data were analyzed by utilizing paired samples and independent samples t-tests after the listening posttest was administered. The results showed that both EGs performed better on their posttests than on their pretests, and that there were no significant differences between the impacts of English cultural background knowledge and Persian cultural background knowledge on the listening skills of EFL students. The implications of this research can persuade EFL English teachers to incorporate more cultural-based materials into their teaching process.
Introduction: The training given at the School of Law, is characterized: the research function is almost not present in the teaching-learning process, a high percentage of teachers are not trained in the management of research skills; there are certain signs of work in active methodologies, a high percentage of graduates graduate through the Special Degree Program, the current curriculum does not train professionals in research skills and abilities, a high percentage of students perceive their teachers with a regular academic performance and many of them have no knowledge of the professional profile of the graduate. Objective: To design a methodological model to develop research skills in the professional training of lawyers. Methodology: It consisted of data collection through: classroom observation, application of surveys to students and teachers. The data collected were subjected to a process of selection, analysis, critique and codification. Result: Design of a methodological model based on Tobón's competency-based approach and the Tunning Project, the theory of critical-humanistic teaching and Jorge Witker's theory of active education. Contribution: The proposed methodological model, will allow the strengthening of scientific competencies in the training process at the Law School and would constitute one of the most significant changes in legal education and would allow a wide incidence in the university sphere.
The attitude towards scientific research is an indicator of educational quality in university education, being fundamental to consolidate every profession as a science. The objective of this study was to describe the attitudes towards scientific research of Peruvian students of the professional career of education. The research approach was a basic, quantitative, non-experimental design. The sample consisted of 494 university students. A sociodemographic form and the Research Attitude Index were used as instruments. The results show that students have a low attitude towards research. Likewise, they have a low level of self-evaluation; teaching influence and institutional influence of research capabilities, and students do not know if the university promotes the development of scientific production and do not know if the scientific training in their academic program is adequate. It is concluded that it is essential to promote greater visibility of the instances that develop research, also, teachers should have the pertinence of knowledge and experience to motivate a favorable attitude towards research. BACKGROUND: Currently, there is a worldwide health crisis due to the COVID-19 pandemic; consequently, it is necessary to find effective vaccines in order to immunize the population and prevent the transmission of the disease. Likewise, it is important to know vaccine progress and efficacy research, mainly in Latin American countries where no studies have been conducted yet to know the scientific production on COVID-19.METHODS: A retrospective and descriptive study was carried out and COVID-19 vaccine publications in Scopus-indexed journals were considered as a unit of analysis for the period between 2020 and June 2021, with authors affiliated to Latin American institutions. Results: We found 141 published Scopus-indexed COVID-19 vaccine articles with authors affiliated to Latin American institutions. Brazil has the highest scientific production with 33.33%, followed by Mexico, Colombia, Argentina and Chile. Regarding productivity by institution, 137 international institutions have participated in the Latin American COVID-19 vaccine production. The journals with the highest number of published articles are Vaccines and Vaccine. Both journals are located in Q1 of the SJR. The most frequently used descriptor was coronavirusdisease 2019.CONCLUSION: The Latin American scientific production on COVID-19 vaccines included 141 published Scopus-indexed articles. Likewise, Brazil is the Latin American country with the highest scientific production.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
