Yoksulluk, günümüzde neoliberal küresel sistemde yaygın bir sorundur. Özellikle COVID-19 pandemisi sürecinin etkisiyle ekonomi, istihdam, çalışma yaşamı, sağlık, eğitim, politika, sosyal hayat gibi alanlarda yaşanan eksiklikler, yetersizlikler ve problemlerle beraber dünya genelinde daha fazla artmıştır. Bu yüzden profesyonel haber medyasının var olan koşullarla birlikte pandemi dönemindeki güncel yoksulluk kavrayışını değerlendirmek önemlidir. COVID-19 pandemisi sürecinde Türkiye’de anaakım medyanın yoksulluk olgusuna yaklaşımını ortaya koymak amacıyla CNNTURK, Sözcü, NTV ve Sabah olarak belirlenen 4 medya kuruluşunun çevrimiçi haberleri içerik analizi yöntemiyle incelenmiştir. Çalışmada amaçlı örnekleme yöntemiyle belirlenen 192 haber istatistiki olarak analiz edilmiştir. Elde edilen sonuçlara göre CNNTURK ve Sabah’ın web sitelerinde yardım-destek faaliyetleri konusundaki haberlere daha çok önem verilirken Sözcü ve NTV haber sitelerinde ücret-fiyata dair haberler ağırlıktadır. Yardım faaliyetlerine yönelik en yüksek oranda haber Sabah’ın sitesinde yayınlanmıştır. Doğrudan yoksulluk konusunda en fazla oranda haber Sözcü’de, en az oranda haber ise Sabah’ta yayınlanmıştır. Medyada genel olarak yoksullukla ilgili birebir veya dolaylı haberler ekonomik-finansal, gündeme dair ve yerel bir kapsamdadır. Yoksulluk ve yoksullar, çoğunlukla yardım-sosyal destek faaliyeti konulu haberlerde yer almaktadır. Ancak emeklilik, mülteci sorunu, COVİD-19 Pandemisi, küresel ekonomi, savaşlar-iç çatışmalar gibi konularda yoksullukla alakalı haber yapma eğilimi sınırlıdır.
