Purpose: Several studies can be found in the literature that investigate the performance of ω under various conditions. However no study for the effects of item difficulty, item discrimination, and ability restrictions on the performance of ω could be found. The current study aims to investigate the performance of ω for the conditions given below. Research Methods: b parameter range was restricted in two levels (-2.50 -0.00, 0.01 -2.50); a parameter range, in two levels (0.10 -0.80 and 0.81 -1.50). After crossing a and b parameter ranges, four different
Monte Carlo simulation studies play an important role in operational and academic research in educational measurement and psychometrics. Item response theory (IRT) is a psychometric area in which researchers and practitioners often use Monte Carlo simulations to address various research questions. Over the past decade, R has been one of the most widely used programming languages in Monte Carlo studies. R is a free, open-source programming language for statistical computing and data visualization. Many user-created packages in R allow researchers to conduct various IRT analyses (e.g., item parameter estimation, ability estimation, and differential item functioning) and expand these analyses to comprehensive simulation scenarios where the researchers can investigate their specific research questions. This study aims to introduce R and demonstrate the design and implementation of Monte Carlo simulation studies using the R programming language. Three IRT-related Monte Carlo simulation studies are presented. Each simulation study involved a Monte Carlo simulation function based on the R programming language. The design and execution of the R commands is explained in the context of each simulation study.
This study aims at determining the reliability and validity of the work-related flow inventory (WOLF). into Turkish and conducted the validity and reliability of the inventory, but according to her study' s results, she had reduced 13 items to 12 and three dimensions to two. In our study, Bakker first provided a letter of permission, after which the inventory was translated into Turkish by a specialist. The Turkish version of WOLF was conducted over 40 health employees working at a university hospital in Edirne. Three weeks later, measures were performed again; we examined the WOLF inventory as performed by Bakker in 2008, and completely validated 13 items and three dimensions. The Turkish version of WOLF can be used in research to determine the effects of work-related flow on the workforce in health services.
Seçil Ömür Sünbül, Yrd. Doç. Dr., Mersin Üniversitesi, secilomur@mersin.edu.tr ÖZ. Bu çalışmada, Değişen Madde Fonksiyonunun belirlenmesinde kullanılan çeşitli yöntemlerin belirli koşullardaki I. Tip hata ve güç oranlarının belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. I. Tip hata ve güç oranlarının belirlenmesi simülasyon çalışmasıyla yapılmıştır. Anahtar Kelimeler: Değişen Madde Fonksiyonu, I. Tip Hata Oranı, Güç Çalışması ABSTRACT. In this study Type I Error rates and power study of several differential item functioning determination methods were investigated for several conditions. For this purpose simulation studies were conducted for methods which belong to Classical Test Theory (CTT) and Item Response Theory (IRT). The results for Type I Error rates of differential item functioning determination methods under the framework of CTT show that none of manipulation criteria have significant effect on average Type I Error rates. For IRT based methods it has been observed that the increase of sample size causes the decrease of average Type I error rates while increasing the number of items has no significant effect on average Type I Error rates, and that the equal ratio of reference and focal sample sizes cause lower average Type I error rates. The results for power study for both differential item functioning determination methods of CTT and IRT show that the increase of sample size and the magnitude of differential item functioning cause the increase of average power rates. No significant effect of the number of items on average power rates could be observed.
