The problem of waste has become a concern almost all cities in Indonesia. Therefore, comprehensive waste management that is beneficial for the environment, economy, social, becomes an important issue. This is inseparable from the fact that population growth in Indonesia is correlated with the volume of waste. if this is allowed, it will threaten aspects of environmental sustainability. This study aims to evaluate the role of the Malang Waste Bank in implementing Law Number 18 of 2008 through Malang City Regional Regulation Number 10 of 2010 concerning waste management. The approach used in this research is a quantitative approach to the Malang Waste Bank (BSM) which is analyzed using descriptive and evaluative analysis based on the concept of the green economy. The results showed that the Malang Waste Bank has an important role in changing the mindset and behavior of people in Malang City regarding waste management. The implication of this research is the need to improve and optimize the role of the Malang Waste Bank in waste management activities to improve the welfare of the community in Malang.

Purpose:  This paper aims to examine the determinants of capital structure.   Theoretical framework: There is an essential gap in modern finance theory on the issue of corporate debt policy, where contemporary theory cannot explain the company’s choice of capital structure composition (Myers, 1977). Myers (1984) claimed that we have a limited understanding of capital structure. We have no idea how corporations determine whether debt, equity, or hybrid securities to issue. Furthermore, Thies & Klock (1992) claimed that capital structure is one of the most divisive topics in finance.   Design/methodology/approach: A hundred and three companies were observed 618 times, applying multiple regression to find out the determinants of capital structure in manufacturing companies in Indonesia from 2011 to 2017.   Findings: This study disclosed that five capital structure determinants (firm size, profitability, debt tax shield, growth, and liquidity) significantly affected capital structure. Firm size, debt tax shield, and growth positively correlated with capital structure, while profitability and liquidity negatively correlated with capital structure. Firm size was inequivalent with expectations, indicating that managers take advantage of firm size to increase their debt. Likewise, growth was not analogous with expectations, indicating that the company was taking advantage of its growth opportunities to increase debt. On the other hand, profitability, debt tax shield, and liquidity had the desired direction of the relationship. Furthermore, the other two variables, firm age and business risk, had no significant effect on capital structure, alluding that they were improper variables to explain variations in the sample companies’ capital structure.   Research, Practical & Social implications: The study focused on manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange, consisting of various industrial sectors and sub-sectors or heterogeneous. Thus, recruiting homogenous samples is recommended to generalize Indonesians’ sub-sector companies. In addition, the findings suggested that the management needed to pay attention to firm size, profitability, debt tax shield, growth, and liquidity to determine the composition of its capital structure.   Originality/value: Manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange were recruited as the sample of the study. However, the controversies and inconsistencies of the results are still debatable.

PurposeIntegrating the conservation of resources theory, Hofstede's national culture theory and the cognitive-motivational-relational theory of emotions, the authors propose that power distance (as a moderator) and emotional exhaustion (as a mediator) play a role in the relationship between workplace incivility, emotional exhaustion and job embeddedness.Design/methodology/approachThe data were collected in two stages using an online survey of 404 employees from three sectors, including hospitality, banking and manufacturing, in Indonesia. The authors tested a moderated mediation model using Hayes' macro PROCESS version 3.5.FindingsWorkplace incivility contributes to emotional exhaustion, which predicts job embeddedness. Emotional exhaustion also contributes to job embeddedness. In the moderation model, the authors found that the effect of workplace incivility on emotional exhaustion was more substantial for employees with high perceived power distance. Furthermore, power distance also played a moderating role in the relationship between emotional exhaustion and job embeddedness.Practical implicationsSince workplace incivility and job embeddedness differ across cultures, the results of this study contain practical management implications for Indonesian settings, especially the hospitality, manufacturing and banking sectors. The authors provide practical management implications for redesigning organizational culture to help employees avoid uncivil interactions in the workplace. The authors also provide implications concerning strategic managerial directions to improve communication and supervisors' skills at all levels of management.Originality/valueThis study is the first to introduce power distance as a complementary explanation for the relationship between workplace incivility, emotional exhaustion and job embeddedness while focusing on an Asian developing country.
