Heavy metals contamination into food chain is considered as an emerging crisis throughout the world especially in developing countries like Bangladesh. The concentration of heavy metals including Cr and Pb in commercial poultry feed samples (protein meal feed, meat and bone meal and fish meal feed) were detected by using Air/ Acetylene Flame Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer. The mean concentration of heavy metals were found in protein meal feed in a range where Cr 10.63 to 218.10 mg kg -1 and Pb 7.37 to 52.25 mg kg -1 . In meat and bone meal feed samples, Cr was recorded from 9.15 to 40.59 mg kg -1 and Pb 5.0 to 61.42 mg kg -1 . Cr was found 17.68 to 78.39 mg kg -1 and Pb 3.54to 16.44 mg kg -1 in fish meal feed samples. However, results showed that all feed samples contained chromium and lead where both metals were present at alarming levels in most of the samples. It is therefore suggested that regular detection of heavy metals especially Cr and Pb should be done to evaluate the health risks and to protect the end user from food that might harmful for their health.
The improvement of adolescent nutritional status may help address the reduction of all forms of malnutrition in Bangladesh. This is because at this stage, they experience a growth spurt thus increasing the need for most nutrients, needed for growth and reproductive health. The objective of this research was to assess the nutritional status of adolescent girls in rural areas of Bangladesh and find out the associated factors that affects nutritional status. A cross sectional study was carried out among 106 adolescent girls of Nobabpur village in Comilla district. A questionnaire was developed to obtain demographic information, food intake pattern and anthropometric measures such as weight, height with measuring instruments. About 80% were found normal according to BMI where about 13% adolescent girls were malnourished, below the cut off value 18.5. Place of residence, education of adolescent girls, their family expenditure to food and improper knowledge on food and nutrition were identified as underlying causes. Nutritional profiles of adolescent girl can be improved by implementing effective nutrition education program, providing supplementary food, facilitating primary health care program and creating awareness about nutritional knowledge. Severely malnourished adolescent girl in the selected area should be identified as early as possible and brought under supplementary feeding program.
An emerging technology Li-Fi, or light fidelity is a bidirectional and fully networked wireless communications medium which uses light from light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and provides transmission of data through illumination by sending data through a LED light bulb that varies in intensity faster than the human eye can follow. It can provide connectivity within a very large area with more security and with higher data rates and high speed than data that can be transmitted through Wi-Fi. It uses visible light communication or infra-red and near ultraviolet spectrum which works by switching bulbs on and off within nanoseconds. By using Li-Fi technology highly reliable vehicle to vehicle communication is possible by transmitting and receiving data through LED head-lights and tail-lights. In this paper we propose a system that uses Li-Fi enabled LED head-light, tail-light and traffic signal light that can be used for traffic management and road safety by using vehicle to vehicle data transmission The aim of designing this system is to reduce road accidents and managing traffic more accurately.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
