Purpose: The study aimed to verify whether there is a difference of entrepreneurial potential between successful entrepreneurs and entrepreneurs who have failed; and whether there are variables that may work as a means of prediction to the success or failure of an entrepreneur. Originality/gap/relevance/implications: It brings up an innovative approach to the entrepreneurship researches, which main content is in the empirical operationalization of success and failure on business for the testing of specific hypothesis and the identification of the antecedents and consequences of entrepreneurial potential. Key methodological aspects: The research was conducted on a descriptive and quantitative approach. We applied the scale of entrepreneurial potential in 246 entrepreneurs, which 100 correspond to the analysis criteria, operationally, as successful entrepreneurs (n = 50) and entrepreneurs who failed (n = 50). Data were analysed by statistics techniques of logistic regression and Student's t test. Summary of key results: Results show that the successful entrepreneur has higher scores in entrepreneur potential scale than the entrepreneur who failed, in which the main convergence between entrepreneurial potential and business success is the setting business goals. In the investigated sample, the gender showed being a strong predictor of business success, indicating that men have 2.8 times greater chance of success in business than women. Key considerations/conclusions: In our opinion, the results found shed light on crucial elements to the explanation of business success and corroborate recent results brought by research on entrepreneurship and gender.

Prospects for the wind energy market have proposed changes of focus to managerial issues. The objective of this article is to map the specific market factors from Brazilian wind energy industry, in order to develop reflections and considerations on the subject, towards to the managerial, strategic and commercial development of the sector. Through an exploratory methodology in empirical format, and by a SWOT analysis of Telescopic Observations Strategic Framework, were found results that show funding and grants determined by Brazilian government, as the big question of the wind energy industry marketing, allowing the economic viability of wind energy projects. Further, it appears that the wind energy industry is eager to investments and has great potential for new business, but there are problems within the producing companies which that have to be assessed, such as the competitiveness capability, the high equipment costs, the installation locations limitations and lack of specialized employees with specific skills and capacities.
Resumo: Pesquisas no mundo vêm mostrando que indivíduos empreendedores compartilham características Palavras-chave: Potencial empreendedor; Escala; Validação fatorial confirmatória; Validade de critério.Abstract: Researches worldwide show that entrepreneurs share idiosyncratic characteristics compared with the rest of the population, which have stimulated specific studies on measurement of this behaviour. Among the most relevant and recent measurement approaches to the area of entrepreneurship in Brazil, there was the Entrepreneurial Potential Scale. Nevertheless, the original presentation of this instrument failed to find psychometric properties of stricter validation, and the related studies are not yet sufficient. This article aimed to check evidence of confirmatory factor validity, parameters of dimensional structure and criterion validity (predictive efficacy) of the Entrepreneurial Potential Scale. Two studies were conducted for this purpose. Study 1 (one) included the participation of 455 university students to carry out the construct validity through confirmatory factor analysis and multidimensional scaling (MDS). In turn, study 2 (two) included the participation of 654 college students and 148 entrepreneurs to perform the criterion validity by Student's t test and effect size (Cohen's d). Results show that the Entrepreneurial Potential Scale presents a factorial design with good quality adjustment and high levels of precision, indicating that it is a tool which converges reliably to predict the entrepreneurial behaviour.
This paper aimed to investigate the relationship between corporate governance and performance of the stocks of companies in the Brazilian electricity sector listed in Bovespa, through the indicators of beta coefficient (β) [volatility] and the Electric Power Index (EPI) [market value], considering the dynamics of the electricity market in Brazil during the U.S. crisis (subprime) in 2008/2009 and in 2010 the European crisis, and the post-crisis. We studied companies in the Brazilian electricity sector during the period 01/01/2009 to 06/30/2011 (Period 1) and 10/25/2012 to 10/31/2013 (Period 2). The results show that the market value and volatility of energy companies in Brazil were not affected during the U.S. crisis (subprime) and the European crisis. However, the post-crisis culminated in the rise in the price of the dollar and the euro, the reduction of foreign investments in Brazil and in the fall of exports, which affected negatively the stocks of the Brazilian energy companies and thus reducing the market value of these companies. Corporate governance has balanced the volatility of the energy companies stocks, since it keeps them less volatile than the market, even in periods of crisis.
