Aim & Objective: The main aim of this study was to evaluate the potential of Neem, Curcumin and Aloe vera as an effective intracanal medicament in root canal therapy of infected teeth and to determine the antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties of these three herbal substances used in the study. Material and Method: In this study, thirty three patients(33) within the age group of 25-40 years with two single rooted anterior teeth, presenting with periapical radiolucency requiring endodontic therapy were selected. These 33 patients were divided into two groups, in which one was the test and another was control in one single patient. The control samples were taken from all the 33 patients i.e (33 samples) in which chlorhexidine is used as intracanal medicament, whereas the test groups were divided into another three respective groups with 11 samples in each group on the basis of three herbal intracanal medicaments used in this study. The antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory property was assessed in our study using the microbial colony count method and the Visual analogue pain scale method respectively. Results: Test Group A(Neem) showed the highest antibacterial activity with maximum reduction in microbial colony count scores. and the test Group B(Curcumin) showed the highest anti-inflammatory activity with maximum reduction in the VAS pain score. On comparing test groups with control group and antimicrobial property was analyzed. The results were statistically non-significant when Group A(Neem) was compared with Control group(Chlorhexidine) and statistically significant when Group B(Curcumin) and Group C(Aloe vera) was compared with Chlorhexidine.
Fracture resistance of endodontically treated teeth restored with post. Aims: This study aims to compare the fracture resistance of endodontically treated teeth restored with resin fiber and stainless steel post. Commercially available prefabricated resin fiber post(Dentsply Maillefer Easy Post), prefabricated stainless steel post(Coltene/Whaledent Parapost) were used. Methods and Material: Forty five maxillary central incisors were obturated and divided into 3 groups: Control Group (Group I) without any post (n = 15), Resin Fiber Post Group (Group II) (n = 15) and Stainless Steel Post Group (Group III) (n = 15). In all Groups except control group, post space was prepared; a post was cemented, and a core build-up was provided. All the specimens were subjected to compressive force under a universal testing machine until fracture. Statistical analysis used: The results were analyzed using the variable analysis test (ANOVA). Results: One-way analysis of variance revealed significant difference among test groups. The control group demonstrated highest fracture resistance (925.2183 N), followed by the resin fiber post group (486.7265 N) and stainless steel post group (423.539N). Conclusions: Teeth restored with resin fiber post showed higher fracture resistance values than prefabricated stainless steel post.
Introduction: Various remineralizing agents can be used to remineralize initial carious lesions.Aim: The study aims to compare and evaluate the remineralizing efficiency of Remin Pro (VOCO GmbH, Cuxhaven, Germany), tricalcium phosphate, and HealOzone (CurOzone USA Inc., Ontario, Canada) by measuring the microhardness of enamel.Materials and method: Forty-five mandibular premolars were collected and divided into three groups (A, B, and C). After sectioning mesiodistally, they were subdivided into the control and test groups. The test group was further subdivided into demineralized (A 2a, B 2a, and C 2a ) and remineralized (A 2b, B 2b, and C 2b ) groups. All test group samples were demineralized by immersing in demineralizing solutions for 24 hours. Afterwards, A 2b, B 2b, and C 2b samples were remineralized by remineralizing agents (Remin Pro, tricalcium phosphate, and HealOzone) for three minutes (twice a day) for 14 days, and then Vickers microhardness testing (VHN) was performed.Result: The microhardness values of the demineralized group were lower compared to the samples of the control groups. In the remineralized group, the mean microhardness values were maximum for HealOzone (293.22 kgmm -2 ), followed by Remin Pro (287.5660 kgmm -2 ) and then tricalcium phosphate (282.4660 kgmm -
2).
Conclusion:The application of remineralizing paste proved potent in improving the remineralization in the demineralized enamel surface.
